The new Prince of Cambridge was born at 8lbs and
6oz, delivered at 4:24pm. The announcement was
made at around 8:30pm this evening (July 22).
A statement was issued by the Palace around four
hours after the birth, and then, as previously planned
and in line with tradition, a paper statement was
driven by car from St Mary's Hospital to Buckingham
Palace.
The notice was taken inside for framing, and then
placed on an easel outside for the world to see.
It reads: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of
Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24pm
today.
"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing
well."

Spectators could be heard cheering loudly when the
news broke.
Hundreds and thousands of fans and journalists had
joined the already busy area outside the Paddington
hospital when the Duchess was admitted to the Lindo
Wing at 6am this morning.
The baby, whose name has not yet been released, is
the third in line to the throne, and the third great
grandchild to Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II. He
is the first grandchild to Prince Charles.
The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, was by
Kate's side.
