I collected an asp.net source in vb.net on login authentication from a friend so i can learn because i am new to web programming in .net platform, though, i am good in desktop application using vb.net but i want to go into web too.
But i am having error in running the project. I opened it in visual studio 2008 professional and ran it but it threw this error: "server Error in ' /asp.net_by_ced' Application
configuration Error
line 76: ASP.NET to identify incoming user.
Line 78: <authentication mode='windows"/>

pls tell me what to do to run it. Regards.

Can't really say what's what till you post the full error. While at it include your web.config file here.

this is it:
it is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

You need to confirgure your IIS virtual directory

Where Is your application located? Make sure it is placed in ur localhost(ie wwwroot). Then in your web.config file, change your authentication mode from windows to form. After doing that, right click on ur project name in the solution explorer, click on properties, automatically u will see the properties tab displayed along with other tabs. At the properties, u will some other tabs on the left side(like Application, compile, references,....web). click the web, then go to where we have SERVERS. You will see the 2servers available (visual studio and IIS web server). Check the IIS web server radio button and click the 'create virtual directory' button. Re-build your application then run it
