Remember that we kept the word Awodi tucked somewhere when we treat Yoruba version of Halleluyah?
its time to make a distill from it. Awodi could mean Awo+idi. awo is caretaker or cater for, idi is scroll.

the word awodi simply implies "one who cater for the scroll." So where do we come about scroll? from the thin air? Of course not. Idi is Yoruba for eagle, but more than that, the word equally means the scroll or something tied.

God told Joshua, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth..." Jos.1:8.

In Yoruba, it is common knowledge that people of ife celebrates what is known as "Odun idi."
The tradition pertains with Moremi and Ela. Idi is "something tied together" but did the Yoruba have anything with writing in the onset of their history?

People of Ketu were part of the Yoruba, their praise-poem goes thus:

"Jaka ara weme
Omoba tente lori omi"

Jaka brethren, people of the book
The son of the king that float on the edge of the sea"

Every other thing can lie, but facts don't lie. weme means "iwe and omeh," we in Ogu is book, omeh is people, together, weme means book people or people of the book. then something happen.

The edi of the edi festival refers to someone and is dfifdrent from the idi (scroll) and the odu of ifa named odi. perhaps you should look at this odu. edi means hypnotist or charmer.

The edi of ifa refers to Moremi and Ela, it is called "Omola-rere" which signifies the death or Ascension of Ela, who was sacrificed to esinmirin by Moremi during the fight of the ifes with the Igbo.the commemoration is what is called Odun idi.

Idi is Yoruba for scroll. Odun idi is also known as Odun Edi, because ela is linked with script in ancient ife.

the Odu ifa given as Odi has link with idi, because it transform idi[noun] to Odi[pronoun]. Odi simply means the scribe. the word Odi is a regster with the Iresa people of Yoruba. maybe the iresa were igbomina people. it says:

Odi ara resa,
omo 'badu elekoro.

Odi kindred of Iresa
scion of badu teacher of the word.

Ele-ko-ro can equally mean "one who scribble words" or "one who write words."

moreso, it said of ogun thus:
"Ogun koro bt." this could be pointing to Oguns way of writing his name: Bt.

lastly, check what the Yoruba have for name, it means "Oru-ko". What does that connote?
Oru[bearer] ko [write]. A person's name is what the bearer writes when the needs call for it.

The "di" in idi and edi may mean "secure/lock/grasp/hold". In my opinion, edi is that entity who secures one's mind just like he did with moremi/iya. this is seen in the saying,
edi n di

and referred to by those of our people who, when caught for committing offences and cannot explain themselves, blame the devil of whom edi fits the profile.

To me, Edi is different from the odu named Odi, different persons.

Edi in that respect is when the law is trying to make you a convict.
call it temptation, or when someone is about doing something that will make him culprit.
