African Unity Pavilion at AAD 2016.

For the first time in it's history, the Africa Aerospace and Defence had a single African Pavilion. Namibia, Sudan and maybe Zimbabwe had participated previously, Nigeria and Uganda were first time participants. 5 African countries in all, participated.

Nigeria
Zimbabwe
Namibia
Sudan
Uganda

so according to defense blog "According to press service of ME “BVAK” in Bila Tserkva also repaired Antonov An-72 and Antonov An-74 military transport aircraft for Angola. The National Air Force of Angola is believed to have four Il-76 aircraft in service as well as seven An-72 and An-74 aircraft"

What Makes Killer Herdsmen Deadly Also Makes them Vulnerable to Air Power. By NAFEESA AA
==================================
Given the rapidness in which Killer herdsmen are able to maneuver, given their ability to direct indirect fire attacks followed by direct assaults with heavy weapons, it is a militarily proficient organization that has made it the 4th deadliest terror group in the world.

The Nigeria Government have consistently for years used the wrong approach. These Herdsmen are the Supreme owner of the bush, they are Masters of the bush and Lord's of bush. The best way to deal with them is to counter them from the air. These herdsmen know pretty well that the response time of Nigeria security force to any attack is 48hrs and that's enough time to burn an entire LGA not to talk of a village.

WHAT NEED TO BE DONE :- Let the FG establish a special Anti Killer Herdsmen Air units comprises of specially dedicated combat helicopters stationed at 64 Air Defence Group (ADG) NAF Makurdi and 330 NAF Station, Jos. These helicopters will be expected to be at the scene of any attack in less than 20 minutes, with Snipers popping out, and effectively take out any murdering herdsmen with ease.

Advance notice is very vital to officer as they’re responding because it gives them an opportunity to plan and it minimizes the lag time where they have to come up and make a decision on how they are going to encounter a situation. This is where Air support comes into play.

The era of using human being to fight crime without technology should be phase away. The NYPD police force says it can take 12 police officers 454 hours to search one square mile, at a cost of $4,500. But it says a police helicopter can do the same job in 12 minutes at a cost of just $160.

Air power wins all wars. Lack of Air power loses all wars. Even urban crime fighting and anti drug wars are fought now from the air. Building military battalions and MOPOL bases in areas attacked is a faulty remedy. Having these helicopters closer to potential conflict regions, we will be able to maximize the efficiency of our forces while minimizing maintenance costs and reducing the length of deployments.

The mistakes of commission have actually started to cost new lives as we saw recently in Benue.

Am in love with nafeesaAA knowledge
NAF is at advance stage for its FOB in Duara Kstina.
I do agree totally about Air component, I think states in the region can collaborated to tranied specialist police officers working with IS ops in their States, acquire drones n helo to ensure flexibility n rapid response , LASG RRS offers them platform to learn

They no longer operate the An-72. On paper, they have 7 X An-74; 3 are operational. Plus 2 X C-212. And that's the totality of their medium lift.

Light lift:
1) 10 X An-12, of which 2 are operational;
2) 1 AN-26;
3) 7 X An-32, of which 3 are operational;

Heavy Lift:
9 X Il-76, of which 3 are operational. 3 are completely unserviceable, 2 have been cannibalised and they are considering having the remaining 1 overhauled.

When the war ended, maintenance fell away all across the Angolan military, even though the defence budget kept rising. An opaque defence procurement process, deliberately so designed to facilitate corruption.

just as the defense budget of Nigeria. the y spend 2 billion $ in defense but we see the bokohama is still a security treat while countries with smaller defense budgets have rationalized theirs for proper and transparent use.

You're outta order. This is incoherent and inconsequential. I don't think this has anything to do with Nigeria and the moniker you quoted was making reference to lack of maintenance culture 'then' in the Angolan Military esp after the war they fought, even with rising defense budget.

Every institution is corrupt, no doubt about that, but for you to single out Nigeria and start comparing with another country is, to me, pathetic.

US procurement might be transparent but, she holds the patent to the most notoriously corrupt military, esp when the US Navy comes into the picture.

Yes, BH is still a threat but, not on the same scale at the height of their insurgency. It's hard to defeat an idealogy, you can only contain it and to the best of my 'junction', we've been able to do just that.
So, don't try to fuel the fire you might not be able to contain.

One reason maintenance collapsed for the Angolan Armed Forces is because they depended on Cuban and Eastern Bloc technicians and logistical staff to do everything for them in the 1970s and 1980s instead of training enough of their own.

Therefore when all the Cubans and Europeans went home a lot of their equipment suddenly became unserviceable.

When Angola invaded Congo-Brazzaville, I remember reading newspaper accounts of how every time a truck or a tank or an APC broke down they'd just abandon it instead of trying to recover and repair the vehicle. Think of how much good equipment and money was wasted this way.

The lesson we can learn from Angola's example is that an African country should never be utterly dependent on the skills of foreign technicians to handle the maintenance of their hardware for them. Never use foreigners on a long term contract basis, hire them on short term contracts and have them train your own technical staff to do the same job.

This mistake has been made time and time again, especially where aircraft are concerned. Don't just train pilots and air crew, train mechanics too, they are just as important to the operation of the aircraft.

And in breaking news:

South Africa has applied to the UN Security Council for Denel to be allowed to sell the land-based variant of the Umkhonto surface-to-air missile to Iran. Since July 2015, UNSCR 2231 has required case-by-case approval of certain types of systems to Iran.

I thought Iran had the S300... But anyways, the US will reject the approval.
