There's a reason for that paranoia. James Brown came to Nigeria in 1970. He and members of his band often visited Fela's club. Some members of his band later admitted that they were taking notes.

Since then there's been a massive debate (which might later break out on this thread). Who copied who? Did James Brown copy Fela (the yelling, etc) or did Fela copy James Brown? So when Fela saw these "foreigners" (I'm not going to use the other terms) in his club, he probably thought "here we go again".
''E bami le lo o. Mo gbeba sile o bami jetan o e bami le lo o'' was Fela's complaint then

Is that why Ben Bruce's son did not allow us see road about two years back? Every evening on silverbird tv, just immediately after the 9pm news, the station played a rap single sung by the boy. Very dry song. I remember my sister always hissed and complained that just because the boy was Ben's son did not mean they had to offend our senses with this tasteless and meaningless noise.
I remember the song too. The song rating for my side na 4/10. He try but he need more encouragement.

Sunny Ade in OC & Stiggs (1985), a movie he had 2 songs on the soundtrack.

One Youtube user's comment:

"After seeing KSA 10 years ago, I talked to the promoter about the movie and he told me KSA hadn't even seen it! So I scored a copy off of eBay and sent it him. KSA sent a VERY nice get well card to my friend who had been too sick to attend the show."

This is the first time I've ever noticed it; you can hear the guitar line from Fela's "Army Arrangement" in Odyssey's "Going Back to My Roots".

naptu2: Some of my favourite foreign (and some domestic) musical tributes to Nigeria. You can add yours as well.

Thanks bro for this, so we the upcoming generation have another bit of history to hold on to.
