BEAUTY IN SHACKLES

Beautiful & glittering
Polished & refined

Quintessential; eloquent
Like gold having smelt the flames

Like a newly hatched chick
Velvet furs and bright eyes

Eyes with a view into tomorrow
Beaks sharp enough to till

Claws strong enough to scratch
An heart well vascularized

Too perfect for this world
Too radiant to be dulled

To sharp not to pierce
But yet this beauty I see trapped in a den

I see his predator looking innocent
He offers friendship even to his prey

He offers him cake
And tells him not to till

He gives him warmth
And so this prey forgets he has furs

He even devises a ladder
One which he tags a promotion scale

He beckons him to labour harder each day
Because his auditors come to appraise

He fuels his zeal with money
Just a tiny bit from the lot this prey' harvested

He gingers him to be the presido
The very Oga of every other prey

This beauty therefore neglects ALL
His life, health, and his Vision

Each day I see him run to his den by 5am
He says TGIF when he' finally freed

He aspires to clock 30years
30years of slavery; 30years in shackles

30 because he' heard there's a pension after
Pension- Crumbs every month from the loaf he baked

Hmm!!! This beautiful slavery I see
A man loosing his life to live another

A man sweating blood to appease another
A man back-stabbing his individuality

A man scared to chart his own course
A man loving chains, just because freedom looks dark

I wail as I ponder
I shed tears as I write

But may these chains not last forever
May this courage come to live my life

May this chick remember its beauty
Its claws, beak and feather

That it came complete
Perfect and able to till, harvest and feed others

That it came to be the Boss
And not a slave of money

May this COURAGE truly come

I stand to live my Life- my VISION
