The world is invariably in the state of becoming.A result of its adoption and exertion of the idea championed by the great Greek philosopher,Heraclitus,"Everything is in a perpetual flux",is evident in today's astonishing but commendable global civilization.Over the years, numerous advancements and changes has been seen, most notably,in the the facet of science and technology. This has undoubtedly been made possible by growing knowledge and novel discoveries,as via its possession, innumerable and unprecedented inventions have been made.Hence, education, being a reliable medium for acquisition of knowledge, various countries and governments of the world have deemed it fit to pay undivided attention to education because of its apparent multiple benefits. However, our dear country,Nigeria,is not left out in this global competitive race,as its current government in power has supposedly been endeavouring to consolidate its education sector by making policies and provisions that will ameliorate it inorder to propagate utter national development. This engenders a pertinent question:Has the intended been the case? You have the answer to that.Apart from the government's role in ensuring the continual existence of the education sector,STUDENTS,yes, students, also have a crucial role to play.Who is a student? It is quite saddening that the so-called enlightened people have pitiably joined the laypeople in having a parochial and myopic comprehension of the student,as one who only goes to the four walls of a classroom. The term student is derived from the Latin words "studentis" and "studentia" which literally means to study. Thus, from the word study comes the word student.Paramountly, the student can be understood as one who studies. This however connotes that by studying, one becomes a student.Infact,he can be aptly refered to as a scholar.A scholar is one who knows his onions;he becomes an erudite and knowledgeable not by waiting until it is two weeks to exam nor by splurging his time on frivolities, but by quotidian studying and reading of his books and academic related materials.Whenever a supposed student ceases to study, consequently,he or she stops being a student because studying and reading is his quiddity or essence.Essence,as we all know,is that which makes a thing what it is and not another. Thus, whenever a thing's essence is altered,it becomes another.A student can only be properly called a student when its essence, which is studying, invariably prevails. Can I shock you? There are basically two types of students viz.,the academic students and non-academic students. The academic students are those who live up to the expectation of their essence, that is,they study inorder to know and not necessarily to pass exams. What could possibly hamper such a devoted scholar from mesmerizing the examiner and excelling in any exam? On the other hand, the non-academic students are those who do not justify their designated term, students. They asininely perambulate through out the whole term or semester, only to discern their essence when exam is imminent thus having little or no time to properly cement any course or subject material acquired knowledge in their long term memory.Indisputably, this is a succint explication for the substandard and unemployable graduates who annually troop into the Nigerian labour market.Furthermore, the students' accurate discernment of their essence will propel them to study, which will as a corollary, lead to inexorable and inevitable academic excellence cum conquest. When every Nigerian student puts on the purchaseable uniform of academic excellence,a fertile ground for unprecedented discoveries is secured thus leading to the overall and much desired advancement and development which the nation ardently craves for. When excellence becomes a tradition, there is no limit to greatness, goes a popular saying. That uniform can be acquired only via concerted efforts and hardwork.Relegating indolence to the background will pave way for this.
Conclusively,Nigerian students can attain this seemingly loft height, yes they can,if and only if,they are willing to give up the belief that they can't.Thus,''Laborare est orare''-to work is to pray.A trial won't just hurt.If it can be conceived,it can be achieved!
GOD BLESS NIGERIA!

{Please,Mr Oluwaseun, forward this post to the front page.Ignorance is a veritable serial killer;without doubt, this information laddened post will serve as an eye opener for the average Nigerian student.)
