Is Seun Monetizing Nairaland Effectively? by remmyz(m): 2:57pm On Aug 24, 2013
I and a couple of friends where discussing about the growth of internet company in Africa yesterday and Nairaland came to my mind that if after 8 years, nairaland is not in the league of internet company raking in millions of Naira weekly... then something is wrong somewhere. its either Seun lack business sense or Nairaland is not a money spinner. but seriously if Seun lack the skills to monitize NL, why cant he just look for someone or even hire a business development manager to turn Nl to a big internet company. right now, Lindaikeji charges close to 600k on her blog for top ad banners and minimum of 40k for writeup ads.... i think Seun should wake up from his slumber. someone please advice him before its too late.

Does Seun lack business sense? No, But his ability to execute is limited because he has failed to delegate effectively.

Is Nairaland a money spinner? Not right now. Right now our income is zero, but we know our earning potential.

Why have we not hired bizdev guys to sell our ad system? Because we would rather automate everything.

By the way, even if Linda Ikeji charges up to 600k per month, that doesn't mean she's making millions every week.

@ Seun why i Used linda as an example is because i have done ads on her blog before and i believe NL has more traffic than she does. up till today, she runs her blog by herself. even if you want to automate your ads, NL should at least fashion out other ways of making money. i know some guys here on Nl that makes their daily income from Nl. If NL shuts down today, their business will be greatly affected. these set of people am sure will make payment for premium service. all am just trying to say is 8 years is enough for NL to start making cool cash...

Their are several ways to make money aside from ad banner. currently Linda makes money from ad banner and also through reviews. lets take a look at NL frontpage, any topic that gets to the frontpage is bound to get more audience. the front page can be divided into 2. first 5 can be static ( which means the first 5 post will be the first post even if new threads are promoted to the frontpage) then the remaining will be changing. which means, NL can now begin to do review for companies that are running promo or companies that want to show case their products.
