orgasticdance: ur interviewer just wants to know if u can talk intelligently. That is all. Theres no right or wrong answer. i'll go with the bigger than the sum of our parts narrative and use examples(effective teams blah blah blah) if i were on the hot seat. just basically shooting the rag for 5-10 minutes without breaking a sweat grin

Yes. Every question asked by an interviewer should always be looked at in relation to the job you're being interviewed for. So leave out mathematics, bedmatics and focus on 'jobmatics'.

1+1=1/2 half , in a corporate organztn, if a particular job is assigned for a person per day, for him to finish d job on tym, if d second person is sent to assist him, which means d 2 of dem will finish d job in half a day.

I guess the approach I would take would be to answer the question in as many ways as possible and state the assumptions taken. I believe what they were trying to infer is that there is no clear cut method to solving a problem; you may get different solutions but that does not mean you are wrong as far as you know what you intended to get before you started and importantly knowing the basis under which your solution holds.

Re: Employment Test: 1+1=? Justify Your Assertion by Datsme: 8:50pm On Sep 15, 2013
Boss Ttdiamonds: 1 + 1 = 3
See Proof Below

Method one
1 = 1

41 – 40 = 61 – 60

16 + 25 – 40 = 36 + 25 – 60

4² + 5² – 2 * 4 * 5 = 6² + 5² – 2 * 6 * 5

(4 – 5)² = (6 – 5)²

4 – 5 = 6 – 5

4 = 6

2 = 3

1 + 1 = 3

Method two
put a+b = 0

so 1(a+b) = 0

1 = 0/(a+b)

0 = 1

adding 2 on both sides

0+2 = 1+2

2= 3

1+1 =3
Method three
Let x = y, then

x−y+y=y

x−y/x−y+y=y/x−y

We can then simplify as:

x−y/x−y+y/x−y=y/x−y

or

1+y/x−y=y/x−y

1=y/x−y−y/x−y

1=0

Now we know that x = y or 1 = 1 is true and that 1 = 0 or 0 = 1 is true, we pose:

0 = 1
1 = 1
1 = 1

Adding these three equations we get:

0 + 1 + 1 = 1 + 1 + 1

or

1 + 1 = 3

simple answer...on the real number line,sign only signifies direction of which since the distance between 0 to +1 is same as that between 0 and -1,they counteract each other on directional base there by bring the general operation to 0 or simply tell them that as an axiomatic fact its 0.

1+1 is definitely 1, in an organisation everyone work in one mind to achieved it goal, so for someone to conduct test for an interview should knw dat the person conductong the test whay u to think outside the box. So my answer is 1
Re: Employment Test: 1+1=? Justify Your Assertion by Smeeky(m): 9:12pm On Sep 15, 2013
Boss Ttdiamonds:

I think I should break it down a bit....
(4 – 5)² = (6 – 5)²
takin' the square root of both sides

(4-5) (2*1/2) = (6-5) (2*1/2)

(4-5)1 = (6-5)1

Removing the brackets we get
4 – 5 = 6 – 5
Now adding (+5) to both sides, we get
4-5+5=6-5+5
4-0=6-0
therefore we have
4 = 6
Dividing both sides by 2 we have
4/2=6/2
Then we have
2 = 3

Now from our normal math rule
1+1 = 2
substitutin' 1+1 for 2 in the equation
We have
1 + 1 = 3

SilaV: It depends on the perspective with which an individual wants to view the equation.For instance,if we were to look at it from mathematics angle,then the following conditions would apply:
(1) The number bases you are working with.If it were to be base ten,then the answer would be 2.However,if it were to be base two,the answer would be "10"(pronounced one-zero)
(2)The operation the cross symbol represents.That is,the concept of binary operation would be looked at.In binary operation,the cross or plus sign is not regarded as the "normal addition" operator.Any sign that comes in-between two numbers in binary operation is often expressed as "opertion".For example, 1+1 is read as "one operation one".Of course, in binary operation if the plus sign actually means addition,then one of the rule would apply;1+1= 1.
Again, if the equation is to be looked at from social perspective,then the institution of marriage would come to mind.In marriage: 1+1=1

When given such question in an interview, don't contradict yourself with two answers as what the interviewer want is one answer with proof so before answering such question make Sure you know what the organization is into so I will answer this question base on the organization is a profit making organization.

1+1=3 (synergy )
synergy is a situation where two or more individuals or groups Come together for better performance,increase in output and increase on return on investment, (profit ). It is a term used in business and accounting where 2+2=5
Re: Employment Test: 1+1=? Justify Your Assertion by Nobody: 10:00pm On Sep 15, 2013
Since its an interview question, there is know direct answer to such. So i say its always better to talk not on one side but be diverse.

To the question now..

1+1=2 arithmetically

But in the business sense, management precisely, there is a word synergy under the topic merger. So 1+1 should always be greater than 2... (1+1>2). There is know point merging 1 to 1 if the result you get will still be 2.

You can't have the networth of a merger to be the addition of the networths of the individual company in the merger but plus a synergy to be the essence of the merger (the essence of adding 1 to 1).

Be diverse
