Chelsea begin a new Champions League adventure under Jose Mourinho on Wednesday when they welcome Swiss champions Basel to Stamford Bridge in Group E.

The Blues, who have lost their last two matches in all competitions, struggled in the tournament last year as they failed to get past the
group stage.

However, there was eventual joy for the London club as they went on to win the Europa League after knocking out Basel in the semi-finals.

Basel enjoyed relative success in the Champions League two years ago by reaching the quarter-finals before they were defeated by Bayern Munich.

Oscar, Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres could all return for Chelsea following Saturday's 1-0 loss at Everton in the Premier League.

The Blues will be making yet
another appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stages when they file out against FC Basel whom they beat en route their Europa League triumph last season, on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.

This will be the 3rd time in 3 years that Chelsea will be entering the Champions League with a different manager in the dugout – and in each of the previous two seasons, the manager was sacked midway.

Interestingly, the new man in charge is not totally new to the club setup or the competition. Jose Mourinho
coached Chelsea in the Champions League from 2004 to 2007 before he was fired by the trigger-happy
Roman Abramovich in controversial circumstances.
