A Car-Free Day encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day. Organized events are held in some cities and countries. September 22 is World Car Free Day.[1] According to The Washington Post, the event "promotes improvement of mass transit, cycling and walking, and the development of communities where jobs are closer to home and where shopping is within walking distance".[1] The events, which vary by location, give motorists and commuterists an idea of their locality with fewer cars. |

I didn't observe today as a car-free day, I didn't even know about it until I read this thread. And even if I knew, I would still drive. Why would I take public transport, when I pay excise duty AND insurance to have my cars on the road? |

Siena: I didn't observe today as a car-free day, I didn't even know about it until I read this thread. Its not about drivin or entering a bus! You are supposed to trek or use other means of transportation dat doesn't consume fuel e.g a bicycle. That's wat the world car free day is about. |

I covered 70 miles today. I would never observe such a day. My car is one of my wives, she would not take it kindly if I didn't pet her/play with her today! |

sweet-tease: Trekking consumes energy, which is fuel the body stores. Pedalling a bike consumes energy, which is fuel the body stores. Trekking 16 miles to work, then 16 miles back is something even a lunatic wouldn't consider. |
