That Dreambox seems to be rather cheap; be careful as there are very very many fake DBs out there and some of them got knocked out recently by an image/software meant to work on genuine ones only and to kill the fake ones.

I have been following from the time Dvdguy started the fishing topic. I have been around the forums on FTA and i have posted/quested a few times on nairaland though I got my answers from other forums. Keep up this new hobby be course its the next future. You can do away over loading the companies internet trying to download the latest movies or songs. Do it at the safe place your home by data grabing with the dish.

The decoder Mr justx24 is talking about can not do the fishing because it does not have the software (FileGraber,Skynet or Mana ) to do the trick. Who knows a modified model might be out as i write now that will grab.

Please for those interested, this site will help. _www.maldiviandigital.com/forum20/thread6270.html.

hi people,

what a crazy world this is, i decided i needed a dvb card at all costs, and so i hit the phones calling everyone who owns a computer that i knew or anyone who could help me get a product into the country. well, one of my guys told me he had one so i went over to KD, and indeed it was the fabled dvb card with remote sensor and all, only problem was it was the desktop type, i thought it would be easy to get an adapter to convert the pci output to the pcmcia or usb output, i asked around again but everyone is assuring me i can't get that done. so now i have what i want but cant get it to work for me, so do i have to buy a desktop or does anyone have a way out>

Sorry, I have not yet been able to read that forum you referred properly. Maybe by the weekend, I will be able to go through it. (I could even have been wrong about the price because the older Dreamboxes e.g. the 500s may actually be that cheap though the 700 series I expect to be more expensive than the price you quoted ---- nevertheless it is well known that there are still indeed many fake Dreamboxes about it; they can be OK with the right software, the one to avoid for the moment being Gemini images).

As someone said above, the Dreamboxes out there now ordinarily do not do 'fishing'. They are mainly Linux boxes that make entering codes etc somewhat easy ---- though to master the machines themselves takes time and patience. They are also used for card sharing by being connected to the Internet and an appropriate server. There is a new Dreambox that has been due for some time i.e. the 8000; maybe when that is released it will have the 'fishing' capability or as someone also said above, maybe the existing ones can also be modified to do it; I don't really know.

As I said before, I don't really get involved in 'fishing'; also I don't get involved in card sharing either.

@Gangsta

The DVB cards are meant for use with a PC not laptops; I don't know if there is any mod to make them work with laptops.

sorry folks,

haven't had internet access for a while now. to answer your questions, the dvb card i was given is a lightwave series type. and i do know it is for a desktop, but the guy who gave it to me says his brother has one for a laptop, i have decided i am going to have to get a desktop, i just wanted to exhaust all possible options for using it with a laptop first.

Bodejohn,
sorry the chap is not a seller, the reason he gave me this one is because he said he got a newer one. he used to have a friend in the states who sends him all these stuff but the friend is back in the country now.

i an going to borrow a desktop and try my card out. i am currently downlaoding the necessary sofwares, ill get back to u guys.

@dvbguy,

Thank you for bringing up this thread. Pls, i need clarification on some issues regarding fishing. is there any possiblity of surfing the web with this DVB - S card apart from offline downloading?

And since one has limited control of what can be downloaded, it is imperative for one to have a very good antivirus cos i know a lot of viruses and trojans will follow the downloads.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 9:40am On Jul 11, 2008
@azeezbaba

Yes, u can subscribe to satellite internet service with the card eg. will be MWEB and have ur downloads via satellite (which is faster) and uploads via dial-up, ISDN etc.

Viruses
i haven't encountered any yet. the program i use (SKYNET) is highly configurable- it has a set of rules for various file types - so u can exclude programs that comes with cracks, keygens etc. and besides most of my downloads are movies. i have gotten some programs too but those are of little interest to me - exe and iso.

Do you use the usb dvb-s box that was posted above?
Is it also compartible with progdvb?
Please if the above answers are yes,
kindly send me the whole software that came with the box.

My email is bodejohn2005@yahoo.com
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 2:30pm On Jul 18, 2008
@bodejohn

1. download this version of progdvb and install
hXXp://www.stvnn.ru/arhif/ProgDVB%204[1].72.8%20Full%20Install.exe

2. then download the SKYNET module hXXp://www.stvnn.ru/arhif/snm.exe and install

now the critical thing to keep in mind is that not all dvbcards or boxes are compatible with 3rd party software since the manufacturers don't provide the necessary support for them. Have u ever used it before and what program is it running on currently? the boxes may look alike but chipsets may be different. does ur box have a name? and who is the manufacturer? let me know so that i can help.

Thanks for the reply.
My dvb-s box is called prosat made by promate.
The website of the of promate is www.promate.net
Windows xp identified the box as dm20s.
I have searched through google and i can see that progdvb is having issues with the dm20s cards
Any help you can render will be most welcomed.

Please i have these questions.
1) The transponder you use on W3A, is it H or V
2) Progdvb keeps crashing when i try it out with
W3A but works well with other satellites
Do you have any clues?
3) Kindly send me a user manual on skynet.

Thanks for all your help.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 5:53pm On Jul 24, 2008
@bodejohn
I use H in tuning in to the 12520 tp. Are you using the progdvb version i sent u? that is the only version that works for me. All other versions I have tried hang on startup.

also install progdvb in directory "C:\"

How to use Skynet.

the skynet program rans on a file called "streamreader" to kickstart the dvb equipment - think of it like an ignition key to your card or box. And there only a handful of these streamreaders that have been written for more popular cards or boxes and these are the works of enthusiats - not manufacturers.

I personally haven't any success with these standalone streamreaders that u can throw into the skynet folder which enables the program to start dvb device - hence I use the alternate route.

I use a skynet module in conjuction with progdvb. What this module does is it caputures the Transport Stream (ts) from progdvb and process it.

To use the module, just download it _hXXp://www.stvnn.ru/arhif/snm.exe and install - it will automatically install to the modules folder in program dvb.

The next stage is to go into the modules folder and look for a file named "skynet.ini" and edit these lines in the file:

incomplete=e:\temp\skynet\incomplete
temp=e:\temp\skynet\temp
ok=e:\temp\skynet\ok

- this is that path where the grab will be processed and stored so change it and create the necessary folders

#diseqc=POSITION_B
#diseqc=HIGH_BAND,HORIZONTAL,POSITION_B,OPTION_B

# LOW_BAND   HIGH_BAND
# VERTICAL   HORIZONTAL
# POSITION_A POSITION_B
# OPTION_A   OPTION_B

- this lines can be deleted completely since your will be using a single position. note '#' sign before them renders those commands inactive until they are removed so you might as well leave it, but I suggest you delete it.

# PlanetSky
tuner=11044000 H 39999000 A

- these line indicates the frequency, SR and FEC of the data TP so change them to their correct values in this case it will be 'tuner=12520000 H 39999000 A

pids=8192

- this is the vital part of the whole setup. PIDS = data traffic  smiley. 8192 is a universal PID - so I've read undecided, but it doesn't work for me. u can use these PIDS on the above transponder "pids=8190,4067,4111,4151"
they are a lot. I will check my file and post the rest later.

Now save the skynet.ini file and close it.

Start progdvb

Scan the tp 12520H SR 27500

go to services on menu on progdvb and click on skynet

a new window should open - skynet

Commands to skynet are done thru the keyboard!

SKYNET Commands

type 'G' to get a list of the files that have been defined in the regex file for skynet

use '+' to activate the file types for grabbing and use the same '+'  to increase the sizes of files you want to grab and use '-' to reduce their size

use 'ctrl + S' to save changes made by the 'G' command

use 'S' to stop grabbing

use 'num keypad' to sort through download

use 'arrow keys' to show details of files being grabbed

use numbers '1-8' on keyboard to zoom in or zoom out files being grabbed

use 'ctrl + I' to send files to incomplete folders

use 'delete' to delete

use 'ctrl + r' to reload regex files

try out these and let me know of the outcome.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by bodejohn(m): 1:20pm On Jul 26, 2008
@dvbguy

Thanks a lot.
My first mistake is that i am using 12520 V 27500.
This is because my progdvb is not seeing any signal from 12500 H 27500.
But i can see some 5 data channels on the 12520 V 27500 transponder.
And i also get some pids on it when i scan with a pid scanner.
Please you can check it.
I will have to reset my dish for 12520 H 27500 although i had about 55% quality on the decoder (strong 4653x) i used.

dvbguy:

@bodejohn

# PlanetSky

You wrote 12520000 H 39999000 A as entry for the skynet.
Is that the transponder frequency and symbol rate for the 12520 H?
The symbol rate of 12520 H is not 39999000 but 27500000.
Please confirm this.

Finally do you use a pid scanner? If not how do you get the pids?
Since we are linked to the same transponder, please send me the pid list.

You have been of tremendeous help.
Thanks and keep it up.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by samir101ng(m): 3:17am On Jul 28, 2008
Shit, gotta get me a card soon
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 11:49am On Jul 28, 2008
@bodejohn

"=12520000 H 39999000 A"

Oops! some cut and paste error on my part. Now I use the PID scanner in Progdvb - so I guess the PIDS u scanned will do just fine. Copy all of them to the section I indicated in the Skynet.ini file.

Once you can pick up the data channels - then you are on track. My card strangely works on both the H and V of that transponder. The only thing u should be worried about is ur signal strength. The minimum signal strength for a smooth operation for both Progdvb and Skynet should be 60% - I have a signal strength of 73-72% on that TP with my 1.8m.

Anything below that will be bring about breaks in the signal which may cause Progdvb to hang or crash and lead to discontinuities in your grabbing with Skynet.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by bodejohn(m): 3:11pm On Jul 28, 2008
@dvbguy

Thanks again.
I discovered that i do not have higher than 2000 in the pids i scanned.
I will try to increase the search range in pid data scanner options.
When i tried out the settings you gave for the skynet, i got the following results:
IN increased from some few kb to several hundreds of Mb.
The discontinuity & tcp threads also increased into thousands but
The file was at 0
The + and - did not show any control over the skynet.
I also did not find any file in the places were the files are suppose to be stored.
I was however lucky with filegraber as i was able to download some pictures and internet explorer files.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 5:53pm On Jul 28, 2008
@bodejohn
scan PIDS from 0-9000

do you have any decrypting plugins installed in progdvb eg. Vplug? or other programmes that consume a lot of memory or try to access the memory? this may be the cause of your discontinuities. what is the spec of ur PC?

also take note of the signal strength - as i indicated u need a signal strength of at least 60% on ur strong receiver and in progdvb it will shoot up to about 70% that will prevent discontinuities as well.

I promise to attach my regex files for you tomorrow - they define the popular file types available. and this is what the 'G' command picks up when u use that command.

Find the pic below and explanation demonstrating how to use the 'G' key

When u press the 'G' key the pic below appears at the right hand side in skynet. it is a list of pre-defined file extensions.

Use the arrow keys to move up, down, left or right from whereever the 'cursor' (marked with the black line in the pic)

activate a list with the '+' (shown by the first blue circle) or deactivate it with the '-'(minus)

the white circle indicates the minimum file size you have specified for download (use the '+' or '-' key to increase or decrease this value)

the blue circle to the extreme right indicates the maximum file size u want to download (increase or decrease this with the '+' or '-' key)

after selecting the file types and specifying their minimum and maximum sizes (very critical otherwise you would end up with junk, viruses etc)--

press 'Ctrl + S' to save ur settings

then press 'G' again to remove the file types list from that portion of the screen.

try and let me know the outcome

Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 3:52pm On Jul 29, 2008
@bodejohn

replace the regex.txt, regex.dat and skynet.ini with my files. remember to edit -

"incomplete=c:\temp\incomplete
temp=c:\temp\temp
ok=c:\temp\ok"

the above lines to the correct folders - a line like this "c:\temp\incomplete" means i have a folder called 'temp' in directory c:\

and inside that folder (temp folder) there is another folder called 'incomplete'.

files being processed are stored in "c:\temp\temp"

when grabbing is complete they are stored in "c:\temp\ok"

and incomplete files can be stored in "c:\temp\incomplete" with the command "ctrl + i"

Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 3:54pm On Jul 29, 2008
@bodejohn

the regex.txt, regex.dat and skynet.ini can be found in the modules folder in the progdvb directory
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by bodejohn(m): 9:37pm On Jul 29, 2008
@dvbguy

You have been of immense help.

I am using two computers to try out the offline downloading.
My laptop is 1.5Gb celeron with 512Mb ram.
The desktop is 3.0Gb P4 and 512Mb ram.

I discovered that the + and - signs work only on the desktop.
I have to use the shift option with the laptop since it has no num pad.
The skynet programme does not recognise the shift botton (i think).

I do not have any plugins installed as i want to get the downloading first.

I have however been a little lucky with file graber as i did got some downloads.
But they were only web pages and pictures.

I will try the files you have sent me and will surely give you any update.
Thanks

I have tried out the files, i am unlucky as the skynet program runs quite well but i have no downloads.
File (last item on the top right corner of the skynet page) still shows zero.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 11:50am On Jul 31, 2008
@bodejohn
Please verify that u've created all the appropriate directories specified in the skynet.ini line
"incomplete=c:\temp\incomplete
temp=c:\temp\temp
ok=c:\temp\ok"

u're at liberty to change the names of the folders but it should correspond with what you have in skynet.ini

then select files to grab using the 'G' command - to experiment, select the extension 'jpg' which is a picture extension and set the min size to about 66k. you should immediately start grabbing pics. then take your time to set up other extensions and save it with the 'ctrl + S' command.

if the minimum size is big it will only grab big files and so you will have to be patient until someone is actually downloading such a file. so just use the minimum size for the 'jpg' to check if skynet is configured well to grab and also to verify that files are being written to the correct directories.

Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by dvbguy: 11:52am On Jul 31, 2008

I do not know what i am doing wrongly.
I have also set the minimum of the files to 1kb.
I have not at anytime seen the progress window that you attached with your post.

Thanks.
Re: Offline Downloading Or "fishing" by Gangsta101(m): 8:09pm On Aug 06, 2008
wow,

this thread has progress ed alot since i've been away. too bad most of the discussion is between just two people. i guess this is because dvb cards are all but impossible to get in Nigeria. but if u happen to be in the north, there's this company in KD that specialises in buying stuff from abroad, preferably on ebay, and transporting down here within three weeks. they are called hepzibah. i am planning to order a laptop version of the card but i have to finish tweaking my laptop first.

i borrowed a friends desktop and installed the card so i could try it out and see for myself. his system had a 256mb ram and a processor speed of 1.6ghz, and about 30 - 40 gig of HDD. initially, the system had a problem with the virtual memory so it was very sluggish but i fixed that by increasing the paging file size. so after installing the card and the default viewing program it came with (can't remember the name right now. all this was 2 weeks ago), i encountered the following problems.

1. the card was not receiving any signal at all, i figured it would be wise to see if i could watch tv with the card in the first place, so i installed the progdvb u advised and kept tweaking with the whole setup to no avail. i finally deduced there was no power getting to the lnb from the card so i reconnected the lnbs to my decoder and then took a cable from the lnb out port of the decoder to the card and when i tried rescanning, i started receiving signals on nilesat and nss7, but no signals whatsoever from w3a. i tried inputing tp's manually but they still won't appear, instead, those corresponding to similar tp's on nilesat would appear.

2. the channels that appeared after scanning kept hooking or breaking. they would never appear fully like those from the decoder would. under options, there was one that i adjusted from normal to real-time (sorry, can't remember the name now) but this caused the whole system to hook. anyways i never got to solve that one sha.

3. i installed three different fishing softwares at different time, mainly skynet, skygrabber and one more i can't remember the name now, but none of them got to work initially, though there was a time the skygrabber finally noticed the signals from w3a and tried connecting but after a few seconds everything packed up and i never got to connect again. i even downloaded that progdvb and skynet combo above but i didn;t get anything better.

now i have returned the system to my friend but i finally have intenet access again. but i'll keep following the discussion closely until i pay for my own desktop. meanwile, what do u think the minimum system requirements for running that card optimally would be?
