I was made to understand that in most European countries,the onus on who to finance a wedding/marriage lies on the bride's family.
Due to most African traditions,this responsibility has shifted over the years to the groom's family,as is seen that the husband is the head and should finance it.
While some traditions coherently stipulates that it has to be co-financed by both families,so as to remove every thought of husband owning the wife or vice versa .
