Pls can you explain how to mate (cross a male and female pig). Is it something that a novice can do by putting them together in a pen or does it need special trainning?

julibaba: hello sir
am just nine month in business of pig farming
my farm is located in ibadan
the issue i have is that after spending alot of resources on the feeding
buying concentrate feeds with cassava peels and pkc my pigs average weights are 40 to 50kg
will appreciate how to effect gain more than this weight in a shorter time
thanks

Hi Julibaba,

I am also a farmer in ilorin, i had a similar problem, when the pigs got to between 40-50kg, they just stop growing, i suspect it is majorly the breed; i have come to the conclusion that some breeds, even if you give them maize and soyabeans for 24-7 they wont add weight after sometime, its like a local chicken, if you give it broiler feed, it can never add the same weight,
what i did was to sell them off, i then got A.I from South Afirca which i inseminate 3 of them and some other sowers which i had, i am hopefully that the result will be diff, because where i bought the semens from, there pigs at 7months , they are about 130kg. I will let you know the outcome of my research, also let us know, if you are able to sort the problem .

julibaba: My pig breeds are landrace, largewhite and duroc.

Yea where I got them is ok

Cos I saw the parent stock

I feed them from weaners for three and half month with concentrate

12 % soya
20 % maize
50% pkc and Gnc
15% brewery waste
3% lysine lime bone meal

But now incapacitated cos of the urge some of money I wasted on feeding and not attaining meaningful weight.

Got 70 weaners weaners wen I started in January and 65% of the stock is underweighT

Am now feeding dem on cassava peels, pkc and brewery waste alone
cow blood meal which u vs get from ur local abbatoir will definitely do d tricks for u..

where did you order the semexn from, I am intrested and what is the breed you are currently using. I discovered most of pigs. breed present in Nigeria have been cross breed with our local pigs in a way this has reduce their growth potential but made them more resistant to diseases.

Effective and proper vaccination programme in poultry is necessary to prevent mortality and losses from many dreadful poultry diseases. Vaccination programmes are available against the major poultry diseases. All birds reared on your farm either for your own stock or for sale to the public must be properly vaccinated.

(a) The schedule of vaccination should be as follows:

1. Newcastle vaccine should be administered at the time of hatch or within first 7 days of age. One drop of vaccine in the eyes or one drop in the nostril is given. Care should be taken not to release the chick until it has inhaled the nasal drop and/or blinked its eye.

2. Newcastle and Fowl Pox Vaccination: - This vaccination must be given when birds reach 6 weeks of age. Fowl Pox and Newcastle vaccine are suspended in 50% glycerin saline solution and the birds’ inoculated by the web stick method in the web of the wing.

(b) It is essential that all four vaccinations are given and in the proper sequence. A sufficient stock of properly refrigerated vaccine must always be kept on hand and all vaccinations are to be given according to instructions. It is equally important to observe birds after vaccination to make certain that the vaccine has been effectively given.

(c) Precautions

Water soluble antibiotic/electrolyte can be given in the water 4 days prior to and 5 days after the vaccination to reduce stress.

VACCINATION CALENDAR

day 1 water+vitamin c+sugar
day 2 antibiotics+vitamin
8-10 coccidiostat
11th ordinary water
12th gumboro vaccine

Hello, snail farming is the easiest form of animal farming that I've seen and very profitable. Though like every other venture it needs some tactical approach if you want to go into it big time. I just started mine own farm, as for information I can't give u everything you need at once here. Either ask a specific question or search for topics on snail farming here in NL, you'll be surprised at the vast of information you'll get.
