Nigerians executed in Indonesia


Two Nigerian convicts have been executed in Indonesia, seven years after being caught trying to smuggle heroin into the country.
Samuel Okoye and Hansen Nwaolisa were executed by firing squad in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
The executions were timed to mark the UN anti-drugs day, Indonesia's anti-narcotics agency reportedly said.
Drug traffickers are often sentenced to death in Indonesia, but the penalty has not been carried out since 2004.
The two men, aged 37 and 40, have been held at a high-security prison on Nusakambangan island, central Java, since their conviction for trying to smuggle some 7kg (16lb) of heroin into Indonesia.
"A firing squad of 12 people executed them in an outdoor area some 3km [2 miles] away from their prison," provincial prisons chief Bambang Winahyo told AFP news agency.
The two had made pleas for clemency to the president in 2004, but they were turned down.

the news reports said their wives and children were escorted to the execution site?

I wonder why. Were they flown over from Nigeria to watch them die, or are the families Indonesian.

Very sad. Drugs can kill in more ways than one.

I don't know anything that can drag my legs to that Indonesia even as a vacation spot. Wasnt that the same place where over 10,000 people died in a tsunami?

really sad! well i wish they could consider that a human life should not be taken like that. its really unfair!

Why the killing of Nigerians here and there. . . .really, I'm getting sick of reading different articles of ill-fated Nigerians who are victims of circumstances. Though some are largely guity while others are NOT!
It's so wierd that these people - _{Indonesians, Saudi Arabians, etc} just execute human lives without fear and favour. So bad

It is barbaric to execute them just like that but then i don't have any sympathy for drug dealers!!

They never learn and i hope it serves as a deterrent to other would-be drug peddlers

Indonesia has a strong policy on drug peddling and dealing, so they have the right

And this peddlers know so they dug their own graves by risking it!
