Another boat mishap has occurred in Kokoli village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state with 18 people feared dead.

This tragedy came barely six days after the boat mishap in Malale village along River Niger in the LGA in which 26 lives were lost.

Our correspondent gathered that 10 corpses from the latest tragedy had being recovered.

It was also gathered that, out of the 18 feared dead, 16 were women.

It was gathered that the boat capsized while conveying traders from the weekly Thursday market from Kokoli village to Ulakami at about 4pm.

The boat was said to be carrying no fewer than 80 passengers when it suddenly broke into two half way into their journey.

One of the survivors, called Umar Ibrahim, told newsmen that they were only half way into their journey when the boat suddenly split into two with the passengers drowning.

According to him, “we had just gone to the middle of the journey which is about 10 kilometres when the boat split into two and people started screaming and falling into water”.

He said because of his experience in swimming, he was able to swim to safety and also able to rescue about 10 people, mainly women and children.

The survivor said the casualties would have been more if not for the rescue operation by the captain of the boat and other passengers in the boat who rose to the occasion by rescuing other passengers who could not swim.

The village head, Mohammed Garba, confirmed that after frantic search, 18 people were ascertained dead and recovered.

Why's it that whenever something bad happens in Nigeria, it begins to trend. Did people just start traveling by boats in Nigeria. Why the sudden trend of Boats capsizing? An evil spirit must mean Nigeria.

What happened to enforcing life-jackets by the authorities, NIWA has been a very quiet and daft agency, u will be amazed at how many people die in boat mishaps in this country where quota system and sycophancy has created a paralysed civil service

That means, in less than a week we have lost 58 people in air and water mishap!

We dint count those accidents we find daily on our roads.

God, your children are dying everyday for no good reason.

God, this people might be coming back from their various markets and jobs.

God, some of these people are only child, breadwinners, wives and mothers of people.

We need ur evalasting solution to these crises in our country.

May God help us all.

Moreso, before leaving for any journey, listen to the inner heart because the inner heart is God's words and warning. Always pray!

This is a dark moment for Nigerians... September and October months have been tragic.

Please I urge all, EVERYONE to be steadfast in prayer (even if you don't believe), Muslim or Christian, now is the time commit our ways before him. My household and I shall be covered from all forms of deaths including accidents. This is my prayer to all Nairalanders and their families as well,

Psalm 23:

Surely, his goodness and mercies shall follow us
All the days of our lives, and
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever and ever, Amen.
