Problem I have with this report is that biometric signal processing is a software thing. Is it the software that was produced in Nigeria? I am quite certain that Nigeria does not have the technology to produce any hardware suitable for biometrics.

Not really so my guy. As early as around year 2000 when I got to know the "inventor" (Prof. T.S Ibiyemi) on this same project we were not only focused on software. We actually targeted making embedded systems using micro-controllers and assembly language. I have watched him drill students during project defense and his favorite question was always easily "what makes your project better than what is in the market right now especially the imported ones?" That is to show you the way the man sees things. He loved to see that you are attempting to solve a Nigerian problem. Our system needs to encourage people like him and people who aspire to be like him. Nollywood need to help redefine who our children see as heroes and celebrities. Right now the heroes are politicians, musicians and actors/actresses. We know they are not solving any Nigerian problem.

The moment we have a landmark achievement in a technology our government should create policies that deliberately discourages us from buying abroad. This will encourage those foreign companies to come establish a base here in Nigeria. That means more jobs for Nigerians.

The level of mathematics and statistical analysis required to produce efficient results is beyond most third level science students.

I was the only undergraduate there that afternoon and went there due to curiosity and the fact classes had been suspendend for that lecture.
