The name badagry has been since the times of slave trade. A slave trader paid an aborigin for slaves and the aborigin later retured the money deciding not to sell slaves to the white man. The white man said 'this is 'Bad-agreement'! the perplexed Aborigin did not understand and took it as an insult. he slaped the white man and it became a case taken before the local chief.

Before the Chief the Aborigin stated his case that the white man insulted him by calling him Bad-agree! on hearing the side of the white man the Chief said that it wasnt an insult, and the aborigin was at fault! The aborigin wouldnt accept and went away weeping that it is injustice - weeping bad-agree! bad-agree!! He was there-on to be called Bad-agree, and the name stuck with him and then with the town.

Thats the story - can anybody corroborate? or there is a different story cool

The whites mis-pronounced the word 'Apatarigi' as 'Badagry'
