FEASIBILITY PROFILE OF FROZEN, DRESSED AND PACKAGED CHICKEN PLANT

ABRIDGED

This profile envisages the establishment of a plant for the production of frozen chicken with a capacity from 100 to 1,500 tons per annum in Nigeria.

The principal raw materials required are chickens which can be obtained locally all over the country.

Chickens belong to the general group of poultry which are domesticated birds that serve as a source of eggs or meat.

Frozen and packed chickens has a high domestic demand by hotels, restaurants, fast food outlets, super markets, and various institutions with food catering services, and they are favorite household meats during occasions and seasons.

The Business can be started on small, medium and large scale and its processes can be automated using machines. It can be started with a total investment requirement estimated at 5.85 million, with cost being lower for a smaller plant and higher for a larger plant.

Presently about 60% of processed Chicken requirement consumption in Nigeria are largely imported thereby leaving room for investors like you to come in and take part of the market. it is note worthy that 90% of those imported frozen chickens are unhealthy and contaminated.

With the changing socio-economic environment i.e. increased birthrate resulting in higher population, higher per capita income, growing living standard and increased activities in setup of restaurants and fast food outlets etc., one can expect at least a 5% growth rate in consumption of chickens in the country.

A designed annual capacity of the plant can be between 100 and 1,500 tons of frozen and packed

The plant can operate at 90% of its rated capacity in the first year and maintain same over the following years.

The principal raw and auxiliary materials required are birds (chickens of about 1.5 kg each), polyethylene bags and cardboard boxes.

The Production processes can be fully automated and with the following processes: Slaughtering, Defeathering and evisceration, Chilling and Cutting.

In addition to supply of the domestic needs, the project will generate up to 60% gross on sales..
