Hey y'all. Now this is my kinda thread. Though I hope it's not a 'girlfriend' thing that y'all have got going on here. I'm also a fan of Hitchcock. And Bogart is EVERYONE'S favorite. And I ain't from Mars. As for my favorite actors/actresses other than Humphrey, they include but are not limited to; Bette Davis, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, Olivia D'Havilland, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, the two Hepburns, Judy Garland and men, many more. Favorite movies; I used to be crazy about the Wizard of Oz as a kid, Then there's Cinderella (I forget the actors therein), Ivan Hoe (I think with Robert Taylor), Robin Hood (I think with Errol Flynn), BenHur, North by NorthWest and oh God, of course most of the Oscar winning films too. The films of those days really required you to put in your all. Not like nowadays where any lackadaisical performance might just earn you an oscar if everybody else produces equally or even more lackadaisical performances. There's this film I'm after too, Rashomon, and I'd do most anything to get it. I do not want to flood your thread, so holla! |
Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by Gamine(f): 12:28pm On Jul 16, 2008 |
LOL. You really are my kinda guy. The films back then, had a certain reality to it we dont get in the movies of now. My fav actresses are Audrey Hep, Shirley Maclaine, i saw a recent photo of her shes ooold Jane Fonda, e.t.c many mo too. i particularly like the 60s, the 70s were fun and the 80s had black people.lol As a kid, yeah wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Robin Hood i cn still watch them all over n over again. i hvnt seen Cinderella tho. |
Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by vescucci(m): 5:44pm On Jul 17, 2008 |
Men I like em from 50's to the 80's but there are really some good ones from pre-World War times. Actors those days that are still alive are few. I think Mickey's still kicking. Robert Redford, Elizabeth Taylor, of course (Divorce enthusiast), and if you wanna add the not so old, you got, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson (MY GUY) and , you know I'm sure. Lemme recommend some since you like TCM; The Great Dictator Maltese Falcon Cat on a hot tin roof The King and I Gigi Cleopatra (didn't really like it, but for reference purposes) Gandhi (I know you probably have seen it but watch it again now that you're older) And since you're an 'elf' and you 'seek' people to tickle your fancy go and check the Godfather trilogy out. You must be like, what? duh! Hopefully you chuckled at that! |

Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by KarmaMod(f): 6:09pm On Jul 17, 2008 |
Hush lasiefaire The 70s had alot of good movies, twisted really. Then downward Old movies I would reccomend to anyone would include -Double Indemnity -Rosemary's Baby -The Seventh Seal -To Kill A MockingBird - Rear Window -Chinatown -Repulsion -Sunset Boulevard -The Third Man -Rebecca -Picture Of Dorien Grey -Whatever Happened to Baby Jane -Guess Who's Coming To Dinner and many others Gamine, I really think you should especially look into "Imitation Of Life." Vescucci, you can't get Rashomon on Ebay? Good movie. |

Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by spikedcylinder: 2:37pm On Jul 23, 2008 |
Cool thread Gamine. No one has mentioned Barbara Streisand yet. I particularly liked her in Funny Lady with Omar Sharif and James Caan. No one has also mentioned Marilyn Monroe who I think was spectacular in Some Like It Hot with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon and also There's No Business Like Show Business with O'Connor (or was that Dont Bother To Knock? nah!). Oh, and has someone mentioned Sophia Loren and that lady in Prizzi's Honour. . . whats her name again? |
Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by Gamine(f): 2:42pm On Jul 23, 2008 |
Yeah, when people join the board all the ones we forget are supposed to come up thanks for reminding us I like sophia But marilyn? i kinda think she was overrated |
Re: Old Movies, Who's Watching? by spikedcylinder: 2:44pm On Jul 23, 2008 |
Oh! I also liked How To Marry A Millionaire with Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall. They all looked so glamorous! Those were the days when glamour looked so quixotic and surreal. I'm big fan of Monroe o, eventhough she had her hands in all sorts of pies. |
