You are rejoicing because the mallams at the airport and hidden corners will get rich overnight selling and printing naira as usual and exchanging foreign currencies
when is that your terrorist brother leaving our CBN sef?

I see, so you've found spare time from your usual preoccupation (lying on your back servicing customers) to come to NL to spew out such bigoted rubbish.
As for SLS, hate him as much as you like, however, you and your ilk can never take away from his chronicled success and achievements as governor of central bank, nor can you take away his lineage, knowledge and intellect as a person.
While I know you are shallow, ignorant and full of hate, your post obviously speaks for itself; all I can say is that I hope you choke on it, shegiya, karya yar iska. angry

I doubt if you are operating a domiciliary account at GTB or have been scrutinizing your monthly account statement diligently.
Pls if anybody else knows otherwise let them say it, so that I'll have grounds to go and claim my money back for wrongful deductions.

All 'Local Content' Contractors will NEVER accept to be paid in Naira.. SO they compromise with a split of 60% U$D & 40% NGN, 70/30 or 80/20..

And NAPIMS, DPR and NNPC are well aware of this.. Infact, they approve it.

Will it be extended to all these road-side mechanics that are called expatriates here in Nigeria?

Then ban the use of Domiciliary Account. People make so much noise and laws when they are comfortable and complain when they are on the other side. El Rufai is a good example.

Re: Sanusi: It's Illegal To Collect Dollar For Services Rendered In Nigeria by Nobody: 3:37pm On Oct 23, 2013
If Mr Sanusi said this, I am disappointed to hear it. He is wrong. Most International banks hold accounts for their clients in multiple currencies. If an American transfers USD to London, he can come to London and get USD. Demand for currencies is guided by market forces. People, including Nigerians rightly dont want naira because they dont have confidence in it and there is a better alternative to it.
If he, as a policy maker, in conjunction with the government come up with better macro-economic policies, then Naira will be attractive. The same reason why Sanusi's CBN and Nigerian government will hold foreign reserves and Sovereign Wealth Fund in USD (whereas US govenment doesnt hold any asset in Naira) and the same reason why Fed Govt will sell crude oil in USD rather than in Naira is the same reason why people will prefer to be paid in USD. Same reason why he personally holds foreign and local bank accounts deniminated in USD (whereas Fed chairman doesnt have naira denominated bank account) is the same reason why ordinary nigerian will rather prefer USD.
USD will soon lose its status as a reliable and reserve currency and people will switch allegiance to another CCY may be RMB.
Weaker govt=weaker economy=weaker govenment.
Sanusi has been messing about with the currency market since he became CBN government and all he ended up doing is depreciating naira. Currency market doesnt need Central Bank governor to tell it what to do. Only an incompetent central banker behaves the way he does when it comes to currency.
If he wants to make naira attractive, let him and his govenment come up with ideas to make people want to hold naira. E.g he should stop socialising and monetising private debt, they should start selling crude oil in naira, they should improve energy supply in Nigeria so Nigeria will produce most of the products it imports, they should build a refinary so we less petroleum products are imported. If they can work on these, demand for naira will improve naturally. Inflation has destroyed naira and Sanusi and all all Nigerian policy makers are responsible for it. Saying it is illegal to withdraw in USD is a knee-jerk reaction. Doesnt work, has never worked and will never work. People have the right to convert their money the way they want it. Exchange rate control is a admision of monetary and fiscal policy failure.

Same reason why he will conduct that interview from Washinton, whereas Fed Chairman has never been to Nigeria is the same reason while ordinary hardworking Nigerians will rather prefer USD. I can go on and on, but her should dictate to people what to do with their hard earned money.

Please don't speak about things you are ignorant of. Their salaries are FULLY taxed, no exceptions.

@Topic this is a laudable move from Sanusi. I've heard there are some highbrow estates in lagos, for example, that collect rent in dollars. Some schools even require some payments in dollars. That's totally wrong.
they should address that first b4 they tell ppl not request 4 dollars in bank transfers

Dont go far..

Greenoak International School in GRA Port Harcourt charges a protion of their Tuition in British Pounds..

CBN cant say they are not aware of this because the schools name is clearly spelt on their Account and the bank accepts Pounds payment into this account everyday. And even the bank will not accept the naira equivalent of this amount from you.

Does it mean that Euro, Australian dollars, Pound Sterling, etc will be acceptable?

If so, it defeats the whole purpose

Perhaps, what they might do is to index their service in dollar and use the exchange rate and accept Naira.

This should be the normal practice. However where the parallel (black) market exists and operates openly, the demand for dollars in cash will continue unabated.

Some business and financial empires were built on the back of this anomaly (round tripping). I remembered when Abacha pegged the exchange rate at N22 to 1USD. The financial institutions made a kill out of that policy back then.

The comments of SLS is nothing new. He should remember that:
1. The dollar is the world's currency.
2. Nigeria's major source of income/foreign exchange, oil is bench-marked using dollars.
3. Nigeria's foreign reserve is in dollars
4. Global integration means that the demand for dollars will increase proportionately to our imports i.e balance of trade.
5. The parallel (black) market exists and operates openly.
6. In simple words - Nigeria's economy is tied to the dollars.

All you have said is well & true... However, the LEGAL TENDER in Nigeria remains the Nigerian Naira (NGN) and should be acceptable for every and any transaction that happens within Nigerias territory.. And refusal of the NGN as a form of payment for services in Nigeria is a Criminal offence.

Nigerian president 'spent $1million of aid money meant for poverty-stricken country on star-studded festival featuring Beyoncé and Jay-Z'

The money was released for the ThisDay Music Festival in Lagos in 2006
It was money from the Bayelsa State poverty alleviation fund in Nigeria
Beyonce and Jay Z performed at the festival along with other American performers to 'tell the world through music that Nigeria's time has come'
