This is the car currently giving the Nigeria Aviation Minister sleepless nights!
Two of them were bought for 256 million naira.
Siena, Ikenna, Car Doctor, Lomomike and all the gurus in the house should please shed more light on the REAL cost/worth of these cars...vis a vis the functions that made them so expensive if not more expensive in Nigeria than Europe/Germany.

Please this is not a POLITICAL DISCUSSION! ONLY PURELY CARTALK VIEWS ARE SOLICITED

A Canadian's view:

It is not everyday that you see a 760Li in Canada. For starters this top-shelf BMW is $186,000 and easily pushes over $200K with some individual options. Then the 535 hp V12 twin turbo mill doesn't exactly sip gas considering it drains almost 17 L/100km in the city. We don't even want to get into maintenance and ownership of a car that has over 60 computer modules on-board to control this über-technical land yacht.

So, this car is not for everybody and the one we sniped in a parking lot north of Toronto was definitely not your average 760Li.

At a quick glance, this might appear to be a regular 760Li that was finished in Black Sapphire metallic but considering it was wearing euro plates from Bayern Münich, we knew there was more to it. This particular car is the 544 hp F03 High Security package which meets the new ballistic protection level VR7 designed to resist all assault rifle attacks. The High Security package includes: run-flats, 6.0 cm bulletproof glass as well as a reinforced body and explosion-resistant undercarriage that meets the higher VR9 standard. But it doesn't stop there, this Presidential car also features a toxic gas sensor, that will immediately detect poison gas attacks, rolls up the windows and shuts down all outside ventilation until air quality is safe. Should there be a fire in the engine bay, the High Security is also fitted with an under-hood extinguisher. Oh, and to rep your country there are magnetic flag mountings on both front fenders.

All that extra gear means this German tank is hundreds of kilograms more than a standard 760Li. However, BMW has compensated all of the suspension so it doesn't handle like, well, a German tank. The power under the lid propels the High Security to a top speed of 210 km/h and goes from 0-60 mph in 6.2-seconds!

We're not sure who owns this vehicle, but we do know it is illegal for any civilian to own one in Canada.

Another view:
Before we digress. It’s the car we’re on about and what a car this is! Here’s what BMW Security has to say about its flagship: “Due to their highly effective protective armor, the non-transparent body areas of the BMW 7-Series High Security meet the requirements of the ballistic protection level VR9. Hence, both the BMW 760Li High Security and the BMW 750Li High Security provide optimum safety in the individual mobility segment in combination with unparalleled comfort of travel, superior drive technology and an abundance of innovative equipment features to guarantee confident motoring at all times.”
Only two people in the world are better protected on the road, Barack Obama in his one-off Cadillac Number One and Russian President Vladimir Putin in his unique Mercedes S 600 Pullman Guard. Therefore, since those two cars are both custom built, it is safe to say that BMW offers the safest production cars in the world.

BMW further states: “…you can be confident that the BMW 7 Series High Security will protect you against any terrorist attack. Of course, hopefully this worst-case scenario will never materialize – but security means knowing that you’re ready for anything.” BMW is adamant that before someone is allowed to call this 544bhp gadget car their own, a thorough background check is performed to weed out the socially dangerous from the dangerously social.

While the autoblog.com says that for you to own this car:
You're totally rich, your name's on several buildings and your wife is hotter than three suns. And you love sporty driving -- no chauffeur for you. Thing is, people are always shooting at your Ferrari 599. True, it can outrun bullets -- but what if you're stopped at a light? BMW has a solution for you. Meet the 760Li High Security and its "little" brother, the 750Li High Security, two new flagships providing safe haven from attacks and an entertaining steer. And they're fast. The 750Li has the now ubiquitous 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 good for 407 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Even better, is the mighty heart of the 760Li with its soon-to-be shared with Rolls-Royce 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that not only makes 537 hp but 553 lb-ft of gravity defying torque. That much grunt lets the big dog hit 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. Both cars are electronically limited to 131 mph.

But here's why you really want 'em. Unlike cars that get all up-armored in the aftermarket, the new 7-Series was designed from the very start with armored versions in mind. Meaning that when the lads at the Dingofling factory add a few thousand pounds of bullet-proof steel plating, BMW has already designed a suitable suspension component (be it dampers, bushings or strut top mounting points) to account for all the extra weight. Moreover, as the new factory panels are in fact a perfect match to the parts they're replacing, the High Security cars fit together better and are more tightly sealed -- good news in case of gas attacks. And speaking of gas attacks, there's an assault alarm that automatically puts out fires under the car and in the engine bay. The assault alarm can also detect excess gas levels and automatically shut the vents, raise the windows, locks the doors and pump in purified air. Gotta have that.

BMW's claiming that both cars meet VR7 levels of protection and that the non-see-through bits meet VR9 levels. Sadly, even the internet doesn't know exactly what those levels mean, but they sound safe. In fact, (taking BMW's word for it) the only safer place on four wheels is Obama's Cadillac One, and even you can't buy that. Says BMW, "The two BMW high security sedans set new standards in the protection of persons at risk while traveling in their vehicle." Still not feeling safe? There's an optional compartment to store two machine guns right in the center console. Plus we're sure some "discreet" BMW consultants could help you and your check book make the 7-Series High Security a whole lot safer. Full press release after the jump.

A base model 760 before taxes yea sure, if you have good options installed it could easily be over 200k and factory fitted armour is waaaay more expensive than after market stuff. the 760 hi security is a very very different car from the regular production 760, even up to the engines are different. i saw it priced online from 350k, by the time you add taxes that will be about 400k then import duty and all that other crap you are looking at about 500k. forgive me rough calculations.

nigerians and their need to defend the incomprehensible, the issue with the cars and what made the story scandalous is that the two cars were 2008 models not the latest 2013/2014 models so even if a brand new 2013 costs 800 thousand dollars surely a 2008 model should cost considerably less than that.
But then again authorized dealers in nigeria are charlatans giving us base models at the price of premium versions if you have the money to buy a new car in nigeria the authorized dealer should be the last place you should go as you will get the short end of the stick

well its an issue that has been brought up many times but not done justice to we should have representatives of these dealers tell us how they come about pricing and scope of services they offer because to me its just silly when a dealer tells you your car was imported from a certain country so they cant work on it or dont have the parts

Very very true, that's the reason a land cruiser that costs $80k comes to naija and they sell is for 22-24m

The real issue I have though is that someone approved the purchase. I can go up to anyone and ask them to buy me a rolls Royce but it doesn't mean they should. No parastatal or government agency should have the power to authorize this kind of purchase. There should be limits as to what kind/level of vehicle they can purchase.

Forgive me for bringing politics into it.

in nigeria we only remember the rules when we want to get someone in trouble you are right though.

back to the thread: wheni first heard the prices of range rovers i thought they would cost upwards of 150 thousand us dollars not until i watched an episode of top gear and heard them quoting 50 thousand pounds, and that was the day i also learnt the sport is considerably cheaper than the regular range.
