If you are guilty of mortal sin, you must confess and be absolved of the sin (s) before you receive Jesus in Holy Communion.

The Church also says that a practising Catholic should go to confession periodically, I think once a month.

If you have not been to confession in 4 years because you have no mortal sin sstopping you from communion, it is good that you have no mortal sin but it is bad that you have not gone to confession still.

If you have been receiving communion with unconfessed mortal sin (s) these 4 years, then you have been committing sacriledge these 4 years.

Either way, you need to go to confession as soon as possible.

Jesus loves you and is waiting to shower his mercy upon you in the Sacrament of Reconciliation...and nourish you with his whole self in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Please dear one, promise me that you will go.

*smiles*

I ask because you sound like you're just here to ridicule.

If you commit sin, whether God forgives you or not, you will pay for it, in this world, in the next, or both.

That includes receiving communion in mortal sin.

The thunder you are worrying about could come in any form.

It could even be far worse than the literal thunder you speak of...or it could be milder.

May that not happen.

1cor11:28-29

"But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body"

Dear one, Italo above made a nice submission. The church demands that you go for confession at least once a year, for you to continue calling yourself a practicing Catholic. So as it stands now, you are not so much in line with the practices of the church you belong. The examination of conscience that you do before each confession helps your alertness to temptation. The contrition you feel when you recollect your failings helps you resolve not to fall again. Someone once said that "an unexamined life isn't worth living", so the more frequent your confession, the more frequent you examine your christian life. One thing common among many saints is that they visit the confessional very often.

When you confess you are forgiven your sins. But you will still pay for the sins either through suffering, prayer, good works etc.

It is very practical.

If you steal a large sum from your father and he forgives you, you still have to give back the money. In fact, that could be a sign that you are truly contrite. In addition, you still face the shame of what you've done...etc.

A biblical example is David. He confessed his sin and God forgave him but he still lost the Child he had with Uriah's wife.

God bless you.

Am sorry but if you have not been to confession for 4 years then how can u confidently call yourself a staunch Catholic. Regular confession (once a year) is a commandment of the church. You freely of your own will choose not to partake in the grace Christ has made available to us thru his holy Church.Your first mortal sin.
The 7 deadly sins are anger, envy, gluttony, greed, pride, sloth, lust.......can you confidently tell me that you are not guilty of any of these sins no matter how small?. What of the sins of your past life, especially those which make you despair?
Every sin against purity (chastity)is a mortal sin eg impure talk, careless use of bad words, watching porn or acts of indecency, listening to indecent music, dancing suggestively, dressing to distract or to get attention, suggestive walking etc fornication and adultery are not the only sins against chastity.
In Opus Dei we are told to go for confession at least once a week!!! 4 years is too long. Do you know how many indulgences you are missing out on just because you have not gone for confession, please schedule an appointment with a priest for counselling then you can attend confession or try and go to any opus dei center close by, you will meet people who can help you there.
