The latest news coming your way on ASUU strike is that the FG is set to open Nigerian Universities with or without ASUU, according to ScanNews Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.

An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the Universities resume next week.

The President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.

A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the Universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.

Already, most of the governing councils of the Universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the Universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.

It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the Universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

Seconded, that's just the Nigerian thing Everybody want to graduate out of our deplorable Public institutions, be it half-baked, full-baked, roasted or not baked at all, as long as it has something to do with baking. We all want to be churned out of the Mill, no matter the state of the flour, to join the wagon of already churned out flour in the labour market.Nobody care about quality again, but rather quantity. And yet we keep complaining that we are not being priced by employers(marketers)The FG knows about this Nigerian mentality '' At all at all, na em bad pass, let just manage the system like that, at least the one we see. The same FG will say that Nigerian graduates are unemployable. Ok, we will keep on managing until we'll have nothing to manage again. Let's think, and avoid being blinded by the fact. It's time we persist, just 4 months and Nigerian are already shaking and seeing ASUU as the Devil. Why won't FG win, since she knows our soft spot.

ASUU is being inconsiderate in the course of pursuing their lofty aims. Also, they are being insincere in addressing the problems facing the universities. Will their demands on the government change the terrible sadistic* attitude of our lecturers? Will that clip the wing of their randy tendencies? Will it force them to read more and thereby be more equipped to deliver knowledge? Will it stop the highly tribalistic attributes most of them share? The answer to these IS NO! We need more than beautiful serene environments to impart knowledge, we need more than air conditioned offices to pass the right information and religiously follow course outlines. We need more than equipped laboratories to make students serious, and that's the simple truth!
In our universities, we are forced to wait for hours before lecturers arrive for classes. Sometimes, such classes eventually fail to hold. We find little incentive for conscientiousness when most lecturers award the best grades to the highest bidders. We see students making great grades just on account of their tribal affiliation with the lecturers and we blame the government
Aside the sciences where proper lab equipments are needed to make them worth the salt, why are our social science and art graduates half baked too? Why can't an English graduate speak good english, or even write a letter? Why can't an accounting graduate differentiate between credit and debit sheets? Because the school environment ain't beautiful? Or because the lecture theatres ain't tiled and air conditioned? We need attitudinal changes-lecturers, students and the GOVERNMENT. They are not free from the malaise, and do have their part to play, but ASUU, be sincere for once...and stop pretending to be doing ALL of THIS for the SAKES of Nigerian students.ASUU is being inconsiderate in the course of pursuing their lofty aims. I school in oau and have a comfortable learning environment. Thank you
And what is my business with PEJ's mother's burial, if u had mentioned the senators salary, u would have sounded more reasonable.

If u ask a poor man why he is poor, he would look for someone to blame - from Govt, to his friends, to God, but he would never admit he's the problem.

If you want to be as rich as PEJ, then go marry Stella Odua or you can be PEJ's...

I don't freaking care, I just want to get out of the goddamn unis and never see anyone of those lectures (angry ) ever again.

You may be right, but at least let's have that good air-conditioned lecture theatres, good and well equipped state-of - the art laboratories, 25 students to a Prof.(lecturer), good, neat serene and aesthetic learning environment, consistent and uninterrupted power supply & internet facilities, uninterrupted academic calendar,2 students to a room with fully equipped hostels, just like is obtainable in top-ranked universities in the world. With all these being put in place by Govt., it will surely address other shortcomings or defect if not completely but to the bearest minimum. The issue of attitudinal change & other defects will fall in place, but worthy to note that even after all these, it will not prevent the few bad eggs to fall to their old ways, but it will be under control, even in the so-called top-ranked unis have their cons, not to talk of Nigerian universities that are still in the bud. We need total overhaul of the whole educational system, dear. Know that Environment and welfare psychologically motivates learning directly or indirectly. No wonder they say cleaniness is next to Godiliness, then I add serene and good environment is next to learning. Let's breathe that fresh air in our institution, even if it's only once. I rest my case!

You haven't addressed the bane of my post. What you've mainly done there is speculate. Don't get me wrong...those things - serenity, comfort, and equipping are very important, but will those change the attitude of our lecturers? I doubt.
I finished from Adekunle Ajasin University, which anyone who's been there will call appreciably serene and beautiful. You may also find out from students of OAU how things are over there. The way tribalism held sway in AAU(until I left) was simply alarming. Being non-Ondo and non-yoruba made me a victim several times. Aside that, there you have many lecturers speaking heavilly accented bad English. Will that change with the massive pay rise they're demanding? Those are my questions. While the government has a lot to do, I think there should be some sort of compromise between both parties. And this won't be possible with the current stiff-necked approach by ASUU. We want the universities upgraded, we wanna see laboratories, language studios, serenity, and comfort in our schools, but all of these won't be of much help with the current corrupt, nepotistic* and lazy attitude of our lecturers. Corruption is another problem and sometimes plain inefficiency(there has been cases of equipments being procured, yet unused because our lecturers can't handle them). Let's talk about these too. God bless Nigeria.

nice statement, feels good to know someone shares my view, infact feels good to know, there are still young ladies who know more than bbm and watching indian/latino love movies.....but pls,for d sake of anoda tym, arrange ur words beta, spelling out each words clearly, punctuating right and above, dnt use short forms to much...very intelligent comment...a senior friend of mine went to one the Asian countries for his PhD,he happens to be a lecturer in one of d southwestern federal universities and also a first class grad of d same skul..he wrote on fbk one of the things he has learnt so far and said, prior 2 dt tym,he hasnt heard or come across anything of dt such...my reply was..''and u said ASUU shouldnt go on strike''..if ideally ASUU IS Fighting for education, den d all Nigerians should support their cause and speak with one voice,if they are asking for their allowance, they deserve it,if they asking for beta funding,it isnt uncalled,Nigeria is known for financial recklessness and corruption in high places...i rest my case Fphoto.
