According to fresh reports 28 persons died in the early hours of today November 2, at a campaign event of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) at a prayer house in Uke in Idenmili, Anambra State.

Sources say Governor Peter Obi and his candidate, Willie Obiano had arrived Adoration Ministry prayer ground early morning at about 12:15am to address the worshipers that had come for vigil. The worshipers were surprised at the arrival of the governor, who subsequently mounted the stage to address them. As the governor gave his speech, the worshipers broke out in a quiet murmur, unsure of what to make of it, Peter Obi continued to deliver his campaign speech during which he promised to make a donation of N5million to the prayer house to help deal with the gully caused by erosion close to the Adoration grounds.

Soon, the quiet murmuring grew louder followed by chants of ‘Onwa, Onwa’. In reaction to the chants, the security operatives with the governor began moving towards the direction of the chants of Onwa. As the chanters made to move away from the approaching armed men, it turned into a stampede killing not fewer than 28 persons leaving not fewer than 200 persons injured.
