RSAMAN:

great list; you forgot one mic grin

Thanks, and yeah, that song is a bit sad in some parts, now that I think about it. But I never really felt like it was a sad song overall.

Here are some more great sad songs I forgot about earlier:

Saigon - Pain in My Life (this song is a classic)
Nas - The Rise and Fall (another classic song)
2pac - Baby Don't Cry (Keep Your Head Up pt. 2), How Long Will They Mourn Me, Lost Souls (one of his best songs, along with Do For Love that I mentioned earlier)
Chino XL - It's All Bad, Thousands, Kreep, Sorry, Be Here, Talk to You, Can't Change Me, Skin
Dizzy Wright - Maintain
Earl Sweatshirt - Chum
Slum Village - Tainted Love
Nappy Roots - Po' Folks
Slick Rick - Teenage Love
P. Diddy - Pain (off of the No Way Out album), I'll Be Missing You
Shyheim - Dear God, Life as a Shorty (the album that these two songs are on - The Lost Generation - is kind of an underrated classic)
Ahmad - Back in the Day
The Pharcyde - Passin Me By, She Said, Runnin', Moment in Time
Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M.
Hieroglyphics - Make Your Move
Funkdoobiest - Dedicated (the video to this is sad as well)
Mos Def - Travellin Man, Sunshine
Black Star - Redefinition, Thieves in the Night
Logic - I Made It, Dear God
Saukrates - Hate Runs Deep, Rollin
Masta Ace - Way Of The World
Nas & Damian Marley - Africa Must Wake Up

Lol have we listened the same song? This has been a 100 percent sad song since day one. Go listen it again, if that ain't enough read the lyrics, if still ain't enough watch the music vid.

It strikes me as kind of motivational/uplifting and excited in some parts though, rather than sad. If you listen to the end part of the 1st verse and the end part of the 2nd verse, when his voice gets louder, those parts stand out to me as much as the more mellow, "soul searching" parts that sound kind of sad. I guess it's a mixture of both, but I never felt total sadness from it like I hear in "Purple" and "Drunk By Myself" and (to a lesser extent) "Poppa was a Playa." But I can understand how it seems like a completely sad song to your ears. I just have a different take on it.
Re: Saddest Hip Hop Songs by PhysicsQED(m): 2:07am On Dec 01, 2013
Now that I think about it, "One Mic" kind of reminds me of 2pac's "Starin' Through My Rear View" (although that song was released later).

Some other sad 2pac songs I forgot to mention above: Only God Can Judge Me, Better Dayz, Cradle to the Grave, I Ain't Mad at Cha

Stan by Eminem!!!

That song is wow! I even got the acapella too!

Talking about Dido, 80% of her songs are so so so depressing and sad...

PS: the stan acapella has been the ringtone on my berry for quite a while now

tspun: (3) Dance With the Devil - Immortal Technique
This song shocked me when I first heard it, a guy who killed
his own mother and then
committed suicide. It's so deep.
He killed his mother
without meaning to... That's
depressing

Op na man you be.

Storytelling at its best. One thing about this song is that it makes you feel like you were there when the whole thang was going down . The song is simply amazing. One of the best songs ever.

@PhysicsQed: You forgot Father's Day by Chino XL. Great song

I've been following this thread but not fully satisfied by what y'all call emotional songs or sad song like the op call it

Before I consider a song emotional it has to connect to real life story, what's happening or happened in the artist's life not just song being nice, here is my 5 best emotional songs

5 Beanie sigel feat jayz(where have you been)
This song talks about their father's absence, how mum raised them single handed, and how they want their pop no more

4... Eminem (stan)
Though this song is a fiction written by eminem but it has to make the list because I felt it well

3... Lil wayne (I miss my dawgs)
Oh my God,song is so emotional, talked about hotboys begin and end and how he missed all of them, track was danm nice, the story line was good

2... Nas (dance)
The first music that brought out tears from my eyes,I went to the mortuary to see my mum,on my way back I browsed about tribute songs and nas dance came up and I decided to download and listen but never knew I was about doing my self more harm , r.I.p mum

1... C murder (damn if they murder me)

Hiphop heads in usa felt this song very well because the song dropped when he was facing trials of killing a 17 year old boy that later took him to jail to come out no more

There are many but these are my best 5(the ones I remember)

ok your list is gud but do you know some of the song you listed are already in the aforementioned? Yet you said you are not satisfied with the list.

Ok y not try and listen to immortal technique - YOU NEVER KNOW, HARLEM STREET, THE 3RD WORLD and find out about real hip hop, not some kind of lil wayne shit you added on your list.

you just showed u are not a hiphop head, the topic is not talking about good rappers, its talking about sad/emotional songs, am not even a lil wayne fan but the song had to make the list because I'm giving the poster what he asked for, I miSs my dawgs by lil wayne is a definition of what the poster is talking about

go back and read you post, you said u've been following this thread but not
fully satisfied by what y'all call emotional
songs or sad song like the op call it.

U have the right to post whatever you like, I RESPECT THAT. but saying songs like

EMINEM - WHEN I AM GONE.

J.COLE - LOST ONE and

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE - DANCE WITH THE DEVIL
are not emotional shows that their is something wrong with your system. Even for lil wayne i miss my dawgs to have made ur list shows you don't know the meaning of sad song. I even daunt if you've listen to those songs.

mr man go read my post again, I said that am not satisfied doesn't mean they didn't give me what I want, its just that am not satisfied

Saying that lil wayne I miss my dawgs shouldn't make the list has showed me what you understand by sad/emotional songs, some of you listen to chorus and judge the song because you can't comprehend what the lyrics talks about

Infact I miss my dawgs by lil wayne should be the no1 in the list, the story line was so much on point

There is no correlation with his
metaphors and he constantly switches
from topic to topic in one song. There is
no more meaning to his music.

This guy could have been so much more.
When he first came out, with his gritty
voice and vocal confidence through the
roof, combined with his great work ethic
(Name one RnB/Rap album in the early
2000s that didn't have Him on it),

he had
everything going for him to become a
legend among the Hip Hop Heads. That is,
provided he could get cracking on his
lyrical ability, which at the time was
serviceable, but lacked substance.
Unfortunately, he went in the exact
opposite direction,

making stupid generic
HoesBitchesMoneyBragging music,
making the claim that he freestyles
everything more and more believable, and
yet, more and more sad.

Any cleverness,
wit, charm, reliability, depth, or even SENSE
OF RHYME is long gone, buried
somewhere underneath the titanic
mountain range of drugs.

“I had bought Lil Wayne’s album, but I was so busy
recording that it literally sat in my CD case until like
six months ago. There was the hype about him, but
I didn’t see what all the hype was about. I felt like
he was good, certainly above average from his
singles, but it was like: ‘Is he that dope?’ Then I
listened to the whole album and was like : ‘Wow! My
man is that dope, Lil Wayne is fucking dope! You’ve
got to listen to a Lil Wayne song four, five or six
times to actually catch everything he’s saying. We
were at a video set a couple of months ago and I’m
bumping it in the trailer and I’m like: ‘Yo, Wayne is
dope!’.” - Eminem

“I just want to thank Wayne for even mentioning
me. I’ve been following his career since he started,
just watching him evolve. He was always clever
with the rhymes. My own quest was always to get
my music out to everybody in the world and
working with Wayne is truly a way to get it out
there.”
“I went into Rikers Island and I talked to him for
three hours. I had no idea what we were going to
talk about. We had a lot in common. He’s a good
guy and I always dug what he did. People just try to
slam him because he’s mainstream. He worked his
way up to being what he is, so when people say bad
things about him, I feel like I want to fight. I know
him as a person – good guy – and I have to
separate myself and say: ‘People have their
preferences, it’s cool’. But inside I’m like: ‘Say one
more thing about Wayne, and see what I do!'”
