Fellow Nairalanders, register for the 17th world business dialogue today. The early application is closing on the 14th of November. Read more about it below and follow the link at the end to register. Open to all Undergraduates, graduates, masters and Doctorates students.

Who organizes WBD?
World Business Dialogue is one of the largest student-led
summits worldwide, organized by students of the University
of Cologne. The responsible organization is OFW
(Organisationsforum Wirtschaftskongress gemeinnützige
GmbH), which was founded in 1984 and it proudly counts
almost 30 years of engaging international students from
prestigious institutions in an inter-generational, diachronic,
thought-provoking Dialogue.

When & where does the World Business Dialogue take place?
The World Business Dialogue is held every year around the
first 15 days of March (usually around 10th-15th) in Cologne,
Germany (Köln). The duration of the actual conference is 2
days (from morning to evening.

How many students are selected?
Every year, 300 bright students from all over the globe are
selected to participate. Applications deposited range to some
thousands each year, all of which are equally examined and
evaluated for short-listing.

What is WBD’s participants target group?
Students from all disciplines and fields of study are welcome
to apply. One of the prior aims of WBD is to attract a
multicultural and diverse student body, so as to achieve a
vivid, multidimensional Dialogue. Contrary to common beliefs,
there is no clear majority of Business Major students. In fact,
there are numerous students participating from the fields of
Economics, Engineering, Humanities and Sciences. Having said
that, your academic background does not affect your chances
of being selected.

When is the deadline of submission?
The application process starts quite early each year, namely
around mid-October. It consists of 2 phases: round 1 and
round 2. Round 1 ends approx. on mid-November and Round
2 (final) on mid-December. The criteria of selection are the
same for both rounds. However, many students prefer to
apply early to increase their chances of being selected. For
official deadlines for WBD 2014 check our website.

How is the application structured?
All applications are completed and deposited via our online
platform, which can be accessed from the official WBD
website, once the application process kicks off. It consists
roughly of 4 sections (which are likely to vary each year):
Personal details
Academic and professional background
Supportive documentation & references
Questionnaire related to the Summit’s topic.
Your CV can be uploaded, but you will be asked to state
briefly in specific fields, only the experiences you consider
most valuable to your profile and progress, whether academic,
professional or extra-curricular. Bear in mind that supportive
documentation is absolutely needed for all the experiences
you mention in your application.
These include between others:
Certificate of enrollment in higher education
Your official transcripts issued by your institution
Evidence of your internships or job experience issued by your
former or current employers
How much time do I have to complete the application?
Once the application process starts, you can create an
account and have an overview of what we ask and what the
questions are. From then onwards, you can log in with your
credentials any time you want. There is no time limit during
the submission of the application. In fact, you can complete
each section in separate times, provided the application is
finalized and submitted by the deadline. Some students prefer
to copy all questions and requirements on Word for instance,
prepare them on their own time and then paste them in the
online platform. If you do this, make sure you obey the word
limit, but even if you haven’t done so, the system will
automatically tell you, so that you can amend it. Submit the
application only once all sections are completed and all files
attached. It is recommended to have a look at the application
before completing it, so that you can have enough time to
contact the organization team for clarifications or any
technical problems you might face. Overall, you should not
worry if something doesn’t work properly, because our
organization team is very responsive and prompt to emails
and, thus, most issues are addressed as soon as the
responsible departments are notified.

When do I hear back for the results?
Selected participants will be notified before Christmas
holidays. The earlier your submission, the earlier you should
expect the reply from the organization committee. Hence,
round 1 applicants are notified earlier. Note that, even if you
submit during Round 1, your application might be retained for
re-evaluation along with Round 2 applicants. In this case, you
will be notified at the end of the application process.

Which costs are covered?
Costs covered include your accommodation for all the days of
the Dialogue and all meals during the Conference. There would
be scholarship for successful delegates to apply for, for travel
expenses.

An interview with an ambassador of the World Business Dialogue, Germany
Naija Competitions had the opportunity of interviewing
one of the ambassadors of the World Business Dialogue,
Germany . This interview would be of benefit to those who
wish to know more about the World Business Dialogue and
wish to apply as a delegate for the 17th World Business
Dialogue.

Q. Can we meet you?
I am Matthew Olaide Adetunji, a final year student in the
Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural
Department, Obafemi Awolowo University.

Q. Why did you decide to apply to be an ambassador for
World Business Dialogue?
Firstly, I was one of the invited delegates for the 16th World
Business Dialogue. The World Business Dialogue is always
a platform that changes one's life. Once you get there you
just want to go again. I applied to be an ambassador just to
help many Nigerians and others in West Africa to know
about the World Business Dialogue and its perpetual
benefits. To make them enroll, mentor and mastermind
them to Germany and back to Nigeria with new outlooks.

Q. Were you surprised when you were chosen? Or was it
expected?
I was amazed and it seems
magical, because a lot of Nigerian students applied not to
talk about many who applied in Africa. I got a call from
Germany that I was chosen alongside with other 29
Ambassadors in the world, and to represent International
Relations Department of the World Business Dialogue in
West Africa.

Q. Wow! That is great! Do you think being a delegate at
the I6th WBD helped your chances?
No. There are lots of Ambassadors too that had never
visited Cologne not to talk about attending the World
Business Dialogue. It's just being creative, energetic and
innovative in your approach when you apply. But, as for
me, I believe it was God who worked it out.

Q. How was the application process like and how did you
tackle the questions?
I made good research of all the questions that was asked
before I eventually submitted. The questions were somehow
logical but relevant to all fields of studies.

Q. How do expect people to tackle the application process
or questions for the 17th WBD?
Dream Big but be prudent, read the questions very well, let
your CV be catchy and put all relevant things since they are
not specifying the number of pages it must be. Try to make
good research about the essay questions and be innovative
in answering those questions. Recommend the Ambassador,
Matthew Adetunji, in the column provided, for better
follow-up and updates if successful.

Q. What is your advice to those who are still reluctant to
enter for the 17th WBD?
They have nothing to lose but many precious things to gain.
The World Business Dialogue is an eyes opener to a lot of
opportunities. Your participation will definitely make you
an internationalist and to unlock closed corporate offices.
You will get many affiliations and better recognitions than
before. All fields of studies are welcome to apply at the
World Business Dialogue.

Q. What do think of naijacompetitions and how can
people reach you?
Naijacompetitions is a profound platform that has really
benefited me in a lot of ways. I got frequent updates and its
has really opened doors of new world for me. I owe
Naijacompetitions organization many salutations. There is
no better humanitarian service than this--I think. I say God
bless you. Concerning the World Business Dialogue, People
can reach me through +2348076086968 or
matthewoa2010@gmail.com for important updates.
Thank You.
