How To Read And Remember What You Read by Nobody: 12:53am On Nov 18, 2013 |
So may people, students to be precise find it cumbersome and hectic to recollect what they read and I have come up to educate and enlighten us students on the easy strategy that may be employed to recall some of the data we thought we have sent to our cerebrum. Below are some tested and proved methods 1. Use the SQ3R formula( you may wish or want to knw about the formula. 2.Always know or have it at the back of your mind that the brain can trap any and all the information you wish it to trap 3.Make your reading interesting. Most students read because they always get this constant advice from tutors"make sure you read your books" but aren't making their reading interest(you may also wish to know how to make reading a worth-while stuff) Would love see this on the page. Thanks. Dr Paul |

DrPaulB: Yea. I havnt said anything cos i need to ansa to questions not talkin aimlessly. So ask questions & be clarifiedWhy would you create a thread like this without saying anything? Funny enough it makes sense to you, even the first message you posted is not correct and does not lead us anywhere, the brain does not store every information you want it to store, it stores information in two categories, temporary and permanent. Most of what we use during exams are in the temporary storage unit, they only become permanent when we do them always, or practicalise them continuously, else You'll forget them. |

For u that asked abt the SQ3R formula, it actually means S for Study(indepth), which includes using different materials and making sure u get atleast 80% of the information ur looking for; using the thought of different authors and conglomerating dem to form ur thought wud go a long way in rememberance. For the Q, it stands for QESTION. While reading or studying(which are 2 distinct things), ask questions on the area u found unassimilable during ur study; friends, older colleagues, teachers, even the internet are good media where u can find ansas to some of ur questions(if not all). The 3R stands for REASON, REVISE, REPEAT. We ar higher animals, able to reason hence, during study, stop and reason along side the author so as to impress d idea of ur reasoning on ur brain. Revision is clear to evry1 but ensure dat while revising, make some salient jottings in ur own understanding. Repeat goes to those things like laws, dates, mechanisms, theories, labels, etc, which must be crammed. Pls we all are learning. Be constructive in ur crtiticism. Thanks |

U dat wrote “RUBBISH“, it‘s ok, but wot i want u to knw is dat d brain has abt 14billion cells which according to research are able to “trap“ all the information right from creation until tommorow and there will still be more space for more pending ones. As for long and short term memories, there sure are such, but uve forgotten d intermediate memory called “floating“ memory. If u need elucidation, it wud be my pleasure to do so. |

There are over 84billion cells in the brain not 14billion, and i guess the reason you said this is to show how powerful the brain can be, but then if the brain is so efficient why does deja vu occur? Why do people who spend hours reading their books still fail exams? Or would you say they don't read hard enough? Lol There's something you don't know about boosting brain memory, It's the fact that every human has a different way of learning. You think reading and believing you won't forget alone can help you store the vital information you need? Bullshit! There are many factors that determine how someone learns, if not-forgetting is used to measure the efficiency of the brain then Elephants would have been the most intelligent beings because they don't forget. |

One thing is certain in life; whatever one does, it must be liked by some & disliked by some. I dont want to assume that u are one of those who form the dislike group. But be that as it may, the brain I maintain, has 14billion cells capable of “trapping“ any information we want to remember in the nearest future. On other factors u typed, yes, eating habbit, the kind of movie one watches like pornography, bloody movies, even our play-life just to mention a few affects our remembrance. I created this thread to enlighten & not to lock horns. If anyone has questions or contribution, I will be much obliged to that person. Thanks once more. |

I forgot to add, never exclude prayers in whatever u do. Prayer is the most paramount aspect of reading & understanding. The bible says that “he that seeks wisdom let him(or her) pray for it. More tips to come. Salem. |

Elliotwiz, I didnt mention anyone‘s name ok? What I typed is a fact & wot u did was not all bad, but ur coarsive or harsh use of words was not welcoming at all. While keeping prayer paramount endeavour to have enough (not too much) sleep. Routine ur sleep ‘cos it‘s wen one is asleep that d brain does what I may call “data arrangement“ which includes putting some data in short, intermidiate & long term memories according to how much u have registered d idea on the brain. NEVER RECLINE TO SLEEP IMMEDIATELY AFTER READING;... More of this in next tip. Stay healthy. |
Re: How To Read And Remember What You Read by Nobody: 3:29pm On Nov 22, 2013 |
Why I mentioned that one shouldnt sleep immediately after reading is because the brain tends to be used to it; and one finds onself feeling dizzy while reading because the brain is adapted to it. This may not apply to everybody the same way. |
