superstar1: we always mistake. most african countries can only boast of 1 or 2 cities/towns apart from their capital that are conducive for living with all amenities at your finger tips. the only exception is South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt. Apart from Luanda, there is no meaningful development in other parts of Angola. It is definitely an aberration to be comparing Nigeria (even in our worst state) to Angola.please stop fooling yourself.how many of the houses you see in upscale abuja are occupied? Dont even go there.our three biggest economies lag,abj and ph put together cannot compare to what i see up there.simple! 4 Likes 1 Share |

And some people actually scream Eko Oni Baje!!!! This is Luanda that is just out of a long war situation. Infact, Tinubu was already in power when the war ended in 2002. And all these developments happened in a space of less than 10 years. Lagos and Abuja should hide themselves in shame!! But looking at these pictures of development, it is pretty obvious Nigerians have a very low standard. We need to demand more quality from our leaders and ourselves and accept less of trash. If Luanda can experience this much in a space of less than ten years, why not Lagos, why not Abuja, why not Port Harcourt?? 8 Likes 1 Share |

Luanda is the most expensive city in the world. The cost of living there is through the roof. Yes the place looks nice but that's it. Hnw many angolans can afford those houses? African nations should stop all these superficial devt. Invest in the education and standard of living of your people FIRST and not all these gigantic, and ultimately useless structures meant for first world countries. 4 Likes |

KnowAll: Why do we still build roads without side-walks in Nigeria in 2013 haba !!!! The least we should expect from our Governors is to build side walks on any new road. That is one thing I respect the Angolans for. And they make sure the roads are swept clean so you don't see even a drop of sand on the sides of the road/pavement. Excellent stuff. On a wider level, these developments in our brother African nations put a lie to the CNN/BBC propaganda machine which paints all of Africa as one hopeless hellhole. Thankfully nations like Angola are showing these foreign news agencies up for the liars and deceivers they are, and are showing that Africa is on the upward trajectory. Up Africa. 1 Like |

omenka:True. Depositing stolen wealth from Nigeria abroad is killing the country. Isn't it sad that ibori will own a private refinery in southafrica when Nigeria is in dire need of such infrastructure. Most of the asian tigers like singapore, taiwan and even indian are as corrupt as Nigeria. Fortunately for them, their leaders are smart enough to re-invest those stolen money into their countries. |

solomon111: Luanda is the most expensive city in the world. Stop reasoning like an illiterate. Those structures are not ''useless'' or built ''for show''. They were erected by investors in the Angolan economy and are corporate headquarters of banks, insurance, oil, construction, law, and other sectors. These firms are employers of labour. Their presence indicates a BOOMING ECONOMY. Do you expect such firms to operate from boys quarters or shacks? Saying ''invest in education'' etc assumes it is the Angolan govt that is erecting those buildings, showing you have very limited understanding of how economies work. Also, I can bet you've not looked at Angola's education budget, so don't criticize what you know nothing about. And those mass high rise housing estates certainly look like govt attempts to ''raise the living standards of the people'', so what are you moaning about? You would rather see slums, since modern buildings are ''not for Africans but for first world countries''? Please think before you type. 8 Likes 1 Share |

IGBO-SON:pls stop talking nonsense. Polygamy is a culture that occurs throughout africa even in angola. The reason why Nigeria is highly populated is because we're a congregation of many nations. The nation of angola is not up to the size of a single major ethnic group in Nigeria. 2 Likes |

Would you also tell us why angola is still a 3rd world country despite their enormous oil wealth given their very low population? I would also like you to tell us how much the angolan govt is investing on education and health compared to poorer european nations like romania, greece, and iceland? 1 Like |

solomon111: would you mind telling us why luanda has the highest cost of living in the world, and how many angolans are able to truely benefit from their oil wealth?.Luanda has a high cost of living because of the high level of demand for goods and services by people who can afford them. Meaning that there is a shortfall between high demand and inadequate supply of things like housing etc. The answer therefore is MORE investment in the country to drive down living costs. That is where people like you can help instead of criticising. As for how much Angola is investing in health via a vis Romania, Greece etc, I thought you already knew the figures before making your loud, condemnatory statements. Next time do the research before posting. 1 Like |

I have been to Angola, apart from Luanda, other places are not any where near birnin kebbi. No doubt Luanda is lovely place with lovely beach and structure, i still stand by it, it can not stand Abuja. It is a small compact city but well planned. if you are basing your judgement on pix, you are on a long thing. Not many people can afford those structures you are seeing, they are majorly occupied by their aristocrats, expatriates and of course Niger boiz. 1 Like |

Next time do the research before posting. I beg to disagree According to CNN, it is because everything is imported by a rich few Excerpts below: Luanda is the capital of Africa's second largest oil producer, Angola (Nigeria beats it), a rising political and economic powerhouse. Yet the country also suffered a destructive and violent 27-year civil war, ending only in 2002, which crippled its infrastructure and decimated its ability to produce its own food. As a consequence, almost everything in Luanda has to be imported. Heavy import duties, along with high taxes and monopolized supply chains linked to the powerful political elite further drive up the price of goods and services to astronomical levels. Then there's institutional corruption, which creates high prices through price fixing and price collusion Source: http://edition.cnn.com/2013/08/01/travel/day-and-a-night-luanda/ |

bukatyne:Kindly take your trashy CNN garbage report and stick it where the sun don't shine. CNN is the LAST PLACE to go for any meaningful information, or discussion, of Africa or African economies etc. If you want to know about Darfur, Somalia, the conflict in Congo, yes. CNN is your place. Anything else to do with African economies, development, technology, or progress, leave CNN out of it. 1 Like |

solomon111: Luanda is the most expensive city in the world. I don't know the actual figure for education in the Angolan budget but this one truth I know, all the Angolan students I met in the UK (and there's quite a lot of them studying petroleum related courses in Aberdeen) were on full scholarship with a generous personal allowance of not less than £1000 per month. One, friend to my gf then, told us they had jobs waiting back at home, with pecks such as official cars and drivers. Reminiscence of Nigeria in the 70s, don't you think? 1 Like |

Nigeria is the only country where her citizens go online to rubbish themselves, their leaders, and their nation. Little wonder why other countries treat us like trash! What is truly appalling is the level of ignorance displayed by the so called leaders of tomorrow. Blatant display of ignorance seems to be bliss on Nairaland. I suggest you look up the standard of living in Angola and the living conditions of its citizens (may be that will make you appreciate your country better). 4 Likes |
