According to South Africa radio station, Eyewitness News, a FIFA spokesman informed them that the match will not count towards the world ranking points, which Spain currently leads with 1,513 points.

35 minutes into the second half of Tuesday’s match, Victor Valdes was forced to leave the pitch after suffering a calf muscle tear, but due to the fact that Spain had already used their maximum six substitutions, defender Arbeloa was officially forced to step into the goal.

Del Bosque persuaded the official to allow 3rd choice keeper, Pepe Reina to be subbed in, which the referee allowed, to the outrage of South Africa manager, Gordon Igesund who was adamant that they abide by the FIFA rules.

Meanwhile, Del Bosque justified the substitution as being in light of “fair play” while the FIFA rules state that in the occurence of such a violation, the match must be downgraded from Category A status.

The FIFA’ spokesman went on to add that  they are in the process of drawing up a report and investigating into the matter before official ruling it as disqualified.

If the decision holds, the match would be nothing more than a testimonial to Spain’s 2010 World Cup victory and Alvaro Arbeloa’s Spanish national team goalkeeping appearance would be striken from the books, as well as his 0.00 goals conceded ratio.

LOL. Poor SA, this looks like some MIB ish, like you see it at first, then they just zap you and it's like it never happened, only they ain't zapping nobody this time, just removing it from the books and history. I mean, what would people say if the World Champions got beaten by a little African team that couldn't even beat Ethiopia to the World Cup play-offs? Poor SA

nstead of blaming FIFA, I think we africans are too naive when it comes to the rules of the game, if it was the other way round, I can bet that the spanish coach and players will not agree at all but instead we africans are proving too wise all in the name of fair play, the western world must really be laughing at our stupidity now, we must learn to be more professional at the game in Africa, this is one of the major reasons why its difficult for an african team to win the world cup. In the friendly between Italy and Nigeria, the italians did not take that game lightly at all because they knew it could affect their seeding when the world cup draws will be held hence the introduction of pirlo and the rest in the second half [3 subs at the same time]. Let's be more professional in Africa please

Woow, SA defeated Spain shocked shocked
Even if 'twas Torres that was in Goal, they ought to have scored tongue

Besides, there seem to be many ignorant fellas on this thread crying injustice to FIFA. Del Bosque made a valid argument in the spirit of fair play, and FIFA has to go by their books yet we see it as unfair to SA. What if it was the other way round

@Goke7, the Italians underrated us that's why the coach didn't start with their top player(s). Bad for him. We were the underdogs, nau no TEAM would dare take us for granted cheesy
