Former staff of the defunct Intercontinental Bank have cried foul over their unilateral disengagement in 2011, by the new owners of the financial institution, Access Bank.

Leader of the aggrieved ex-workers, told PorsheClassy.com in an exclusive interview on Sunday, that he and his group had taken it upon themselves to challenge the Board of
Trustees (BoT) Access Bank to ensure that their voices are heard.

In a petition dated October 23, 2013 and written to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, counsel of the former Intercontinental Staff, Bola Akinyele and Co., said the over 2, 500 workers affected by the rationalization exercise carried out by Access Bank were simply victimized.

At the hearing on the matter which came up on Friday at the National Industrial Court, after several adjournments, the court ruled that the appellants have no case against the Board of Trustees (BoT), but management of Access Bank.

But determined to see that justice is done, the ex-workers say they will not rest on their oars until Access Bank does the following:

1. Access Bank hands off the gratuity funds already provided for Intercontinental Bank Plc;

2. Immediately pay the proper and actual severance benefits;

3. Disclose the parameters applied which caused a large shortfall compared to the industry’s best practices in line with labour law as adopted by Ecobank and other banks in the industry
in the same exercise;

4. Pay what stands as the balance Severance, and outright disbursement of full gratuity and accrued interest;

5. Immediately pay all affected staff redundancy benefits having caused an unprepared loss of employment and attendant hardship and loss of income for upkeep, that of family and
other basic needs.

PorscheClassy.com reporter who was on ground at the National Industrial Court located on luggard Avenue, ikoyi (off kingsway/Alfred Rewane Road) on Friday 8th of November observed the displeasure on the faces of the aggrieved staff who felt dissapointed by the court pronouncement.

Efforts by PorscheClassy Media to get the other side of the story from Access Bank proved abortive as their supposed customer care unit remained unreachable.

The next court hearing comes up in January, 2014.
