"Aquatic farming have been in Nigeria for a very long time,and a common belief is you must be wealthy before you can start,it is mostly believed that retired generals and other big men are the only one with the resources to get involved,the most popular type of fishes rare are catfish and tilipia,each comes with their advantages and disadvantages,but it is better to start with catfish cause they grow faster and they are more marketable,what you first need is a tank,a plastic tank,you can even cut a geepee tank into two and use the base as the container,so the next thing you need is water to fill it up,then you need to order for fingerlings i.e the little fishes the price varies but you the average is #25,and as a beginner you can start with around 500 pieces,and you have to buy their food its everywhere in Nigeria for about #4,500 per bag that's 15kg,the more they grow the more they eat so you should estimate 7 bags you will nuture the fishes till they are due for sale that's in like 5 to 6 months time,and if you are lucky you fishes can weight up to 1.5kg and a kilo in the market sells for #650-#700 so minus casualties let's say 30 fishes died prematurely you will get a return of investment of about #300,000 in just 6 months for 500 pieces my mother is one of the biggest fish farmers in the north,so I'm talking out of experience "
