[1] He voluntarily stepped down after a single term of four years as South African President. How many Nigerian leaders can do that?
[2] He did not lift a finger against his political enemies. Where else has this happened across Africa?
[3] Can you imagine what a Nigerian president would have done to Mongasuthu Buthelezi?
[4] Do you know that in December 1997, his wife Winnie was nominated to be the ANC deputy president but she rejected the offer? She would easily have won but turned down the offer knowing it would divide the party. How many Nigerian politicians would turn down the lure of office to avoid splitting their party?
[5] After spending 27 years on Robben Island, Madiba resisted pressure to go for revenge against the White racists who introduced Apartheid.
[6] Nelson Mandela did not die a millionaire.
[7] Madiba did not own a private jet.
[8] He remained an accessible and easy-going man.
[9] Even at the UN headquarters, they stood in silence for a minute. What more of a tribute can a man get?
[10] Nothing beats a good name. No amount of riches can compare with it. Let that be the lesson from Madiba to Nigerians!
