Research evidence into the indigenous technology particularly of aluminum pot making in Saki reveals that it is dated back to over one hundred years. As it depicts, the pots are made from aluminum with the raw materials sourced from motor body scraps. The scraps are then melted using the energy derived from the use of charcoal heated through the local furnace before they are molded with sand to produce different sizes of pots. After heating the metals, the colour turns white. The durability of the pot is between 40 to 50 years while the makers could easily repair and re-design old products. As a result of innovations and hard work, the new generation of pots makers now designs different sizes of the pots to meet different cooking requirements. They boast of 12 different designs of about one hundred sizes and they are well above 2000 makers employing a minimum of 5 people in their local factories. The Irepodun Aluminum Pot Society coordinates the activities of the pot makers. The aluminum pot has become a commercial symbol of Saki and a household item in the locality and many other parts of Nigeria. Its energy efficiency, durability and effectiveness for all forms of cooking have given the aluminum pot a comparative advantage over and above the imported pots from elsewhere. Given its economic importance, it has in the last two decades attracted high demand from the neighbouring West African countries like Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger Republics to boost export trade. Although NAPEP under the Federal Government Poverty Alleviation Programme has been providing financial assistance to the association of aluminum pot makers in the town. However, the local producers also need the support of Export Promotion Council to assist them on how to package their wears to meet international standards. In addition, a further research into the aluminum pot making could help to advance the indigenous technology and enhance the capacity building of the pot makers towards higher productivity to boost local consumption as well as export trade.
