Mt. 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
Mt. 7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

There are different doctrines and practices in Christianity of today. It is very clear that not all these doctrines and practices are true. Jesus clearly says that the gate into Christianity is narrow and that true Christian way of life is also narrow. "Narrow" here means being clearly defined and limited, so that not everything goes.

In this thread, we want to find out what true Christianity entails. What is the gate to true Christianity? And what is the way of true Christianity?

Ep. 4:11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
Ep. 4:12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
Ep. 4:13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fulness of Christ.
Ep. 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
Ep. 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

True Christianity should enable those involved to attain to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ; that is, to become like Jesus Christ. Do we see that happening today?

The gate

Mk. 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
Mk. 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Ac. 2:36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Ac. 2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Ac. 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The gate into Christianity is water baptism. In the churches of today, there are various ways by which people become born again, but the truth is that being born again begins with water baptism. However, it is not every kind of water baptism that makes a person born again. The gate is very narrow. In Mk 16:16, Jesus says "Whoever believes and is baptized", after saying "preach the good news". So, only a person who knows the good news is qualified to be baptized. In Acts 2:38, Peter said, "Repent and be baptized". What else provokes repentance in a person if not knowledge of the good news?

Apart from qualification for baptism, what about how the water baptism is administered? Since the gate is narrow, it is not every kind of water baptism that is admissible. Christianity has Jewish origin. In order to determine the correct method of water baptism, one must go back to Jewish baptism during the time of Jesus' earthly ministry. Gentiles do not have the authority to invent their own methods of water baptism.

Jn. 3:5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Lk. 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Jesus says that being born again requires both water and Holy Spirit baptism. Therefore, having been baptized in water, a person needs to pray for God to give him/her the Holy Spirit. It is receiving the Holy Spirit that makes a person really born again.

The Road that leads to eternal life

Ep. 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
Ep. 4:23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
Ep. 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

True Christianity does not admit the old man with its corrupt and deceitful desires. Therefore, the born again Christian needs to put off the old self. Since true Christianity only admits the new man that is created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness, the born again Christian must put on the new self.

Ga. 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
Ga. 5:20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
Ga. 5:21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ga. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Ga. 5:23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Ga. 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
Ga. 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Ga. 5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Zec. 4:6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.
Zec. 4:7 “What [Or Who] are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”

Ro. 8:13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,

Putting off the old self and putting on the new self can only be done through the Holy Spirit.
