http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/toyota/4runner/1999/ Please be aware of the strawberry milkshake. It is a big problem, but completely preventable. Please note that the radiator is directly secured to the truck body, and not isolated with rubber like a typical car would be. The truck's stiff suspension will shake the radiator hard during its lifetime. The transmission fluid cooler, which is integrated into the radiator to maintain proper transmission temps, can break inside the radiator and mix with the coolant. The transmission will be ruined if this happens. Spend $120 and replace the radiator every 100k miles. You don't have to do it, but if it fails, it will cost you thousands $$. please is this true for 1999 to 2002 4runner, just saw this in car survey.org. must we change the radiator every 100k miles? please advice needed. |

greatikena: Spend $120 and replace the radiator every 100k miles. You don't have to do it, but if it fails, it will cost you thousands $$. What is so hard to understand in that survey? It's your choice. If you wish to wait until the oil cooler ruptures, then don't bother with any preventative measures. 100,000 miles is like 10 years worth of driving. I would certainly spend N19,000 every 10 years, if I intend to keep the car that long. This is one of the reasons a lot of Nigerian-used cars are no-go areas. The cars are perfect, then as soon as they land in Nigeria, they're garbage in 6 months or less, because their owners wait for things to break before acting. Like driving with a CEL. Just because a car with a CEL, ABS, SRS warning still drives, doesn't mean all is well. And in answer to your question, oil coolers do rupture on the Toyota 4Runner / Surf. |

Thank you Siena, I intend getting one and just doing some research and stumbled on that survey. The problem that may arise is getting the genuine radiator because anything short of this may not be good enough. We all know that in Nigeria here most times the tokunbo parts tends to be better than the so called new parts. All the same thank you, compliment of the season and God bless u |
