Dear All,

I would like to know if there is and correlation between a car mileage and the engine performance. My uncle toyota corolla with mileage 243,950 the engine sound great and the car move efficiently, no smoke, no engine oil shortage, no overheating etc.

I will like to know if car mileage affect engine and the car performance because have also seen a car with mileage 45,000 that smoke, etc.

kindly help me out on this. Thank you in advance.

The higher the mileage of a car/engine, the higher the wear and tear history of that engine (considering friction, heat over time)

In simple terms, a higher mileage car, has experienced more engine wear and tear thus a significant reduction in torque and horsepower (performance). But that said,

An engine ability to still perform well squarely lies on the drivers driving manners, maintenance culture and materials used as replacement (quality of various fluids, fuels, replacement spare parts).

I used a carina ii 2.0Gli liftback 3 years ago and sold it with a mileage of 480,000 miles on the odoemeter yet, the engine was still very good, while some other cars hardly does 90,000 miles and the engine goes bad. It still boils down the drivers driving manners, maintenance culture and materials used as replacement (quality of various fluids, fuels, replacement spare parts).

What do you mean by driver driving manner, i agree with maintenance culture and the quality of spare replacement.

The manner in which a person drives his/her car will always take its toll on the car. If you drive too aggressively, or engage in sudden hard and aggressive acceleration, gear changing (improper gear changing, clutching (improper clutching, reversing, braking and cornering sliding, dragging, drifting. These can really reduce the service age of your car and parts will soon start to fail because you're pushing your car to or even beyond its limit. These result to reduction of performance of such cars.

Ever wonder why its written in most motor car owners manual not to engage in hard acceleration, braking and sharp cornering during the first 1000-1500Km of a brand new car?

Mileages differ. Intercity and highway mileage. If your car has a high mileage on the former then thats where there might actually be a problem unlike the highway mileage.

My W202 C230k @ 186k miles, every time we up on the highway all we do is high rev driving and mad down-shifts. Honestly there are cars that are just meant 2 be driven like all the features u mentioned above. That was y I traded in my 2004 accord EX for a 2000 C230k, the merc is such a kick.

A lower mileage indicates that the engine is still new. Its just similar to a human body. A young man is expected to be more active than an older man.

But maintenance is also key. If you can afford it, service and repair ur car with an authorized dealer. Don't allow any type of person to do "industrial training" with your car.

You also have to consider that the engine may have been replaced.

What if the engine has been replaced. Can the mileage be reset? Anyway, the mileage shows the distance covered by the car sha.

My ford escape 2006 is at 105,000 miles and it runs smoothly. I do not drive above 70 mph or do any stunt. I just drive it and change the oil regularly and it serves me well.
