ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) embark on an indefinite strike on July, on the first day of the aforementioned month in 2013. The industrial halt was unforeseen by the scholars in diverse universities within the country, It happened unexpectedly and since the ordeal unveils itself, Virtually, All the federal and state universities or institutions were stranded and deserted, due to the academic strike that is becoming a yearly occurrence.
Marathon discussions, meetings were held in order to suspend the lingered strike but all to no avail. Unyielding solutions erupted from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Media Practitioners, legal practitioners, worried parents and highly-ranked politicians – who permitted the industrial strike to linger up to six months without a definite and profound solution.
Not only did the industrial halt by the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) denigrate the educational system nationwide, it further, globally, diminishes the Nigeria educational status and reputation. The primary aim of all Nigeria institutions or universities is to be globally ranked and recognize but how can this aspiration come to reality when ASUU Strike is becoming a yearly phenomenon?
ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) which succeeded the Nigerian Association of University Teacher in the year 1978 has embarked on a series of “Academic Strikes” since its existence, before the fourth republic.

✱Fourth Republic Academic Strikes
1999 5 months
2001 3 months
2002 2 weeks
2003 6 months (ended in 2004)
2005 3 days
2006 1 week
2007 3 months
2008 1 week
2009 4 months
2010 5 months and 1 week
2011 3 months (ended 2012)
2013 5 months and seventeen days

These academic discontinuations in Nigeria institutions have poked a great deal of negative effects on the educational sector of the country, without a definite and stable solution proffered to confront this enemy (ASUU STRIKE) battling with the educational sector of Nigeria. If not esteem as a threat, intending to deride and destroy the educational sector of Nigeria, It may soon become a yearly occurrence and an unconquerable threat, that the FG may never be able to stop – Boko Haram, If not permanently resolved.
