Obama Escapes Assassination: 4 Suspects Arrested, Rifles Recovered by Truequest(m): 4:36pm On Aug 26, 2008
The police in the United States have uncovered a ‘white supremacist’ plot to assassinate Democratic Party presidential candidate , Senator Barack Obama, barely 48 hours to the delivery of his acceptance speech at his party’s convention in Denver, Colorado.

Several persons have been arrested with guns and ammunition while heading to the convention venue, the Daily Mail of London reported today, saying the arrest of the suspects was done on Sunday.

One of the suspects told authorities they were going to shoot Obama from a vantage point using a rifle erected 750 yards away from the convention grounds.

Police arrested 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell, after he was spotted driving erratically near Denver, where Mr. Obama is due to speak at the Democratic Party convention on Thursday.

Officers recovered two high-powered rifles with telescopic scopes, camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies, wigs, a bulletproof vest, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people and 44 grams of the drug methamphetamine.

Police alerted federal officials because of heightened security surrounding the Democratic convention, Dudley said.

‘Clearly, we found there are federal implications, otherwise we would not have notified them,’ Detective Marcus Dudley said. ‘The weapons clearly would cause great concern.’

Police went to a nearby hotel to contact an associate of Gartrell. But that man, identified as 33-year-old Shawn Robert Adolph, jumped out of a sixth floor window to escape detectives. Adolph broke an ankle in the fall and was captured moments later.

Sources say he had a handcuff ring and was wearing a swastika, and is thought to have ties to white supremacist organisations. A third man - an associate of Gartrell and Adolph - Nathan Johnson, 32, was also arrested. He told authorities that the two men ‘planned to kill Barack Obama at his acceptance speech’.

Johnson, along with his girlfriend, Natasha Gromek, are also under arrest on drug charges.

The Secret Service, FBI, ATF and the joint terrorism task force are all investigating the alleged plot.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has scheduled a news conference for later today. The U.S. Attorney in Denver said it does not believe there is a credible threat to Obama or the convention.

‘It’s premature to say that it was a valid threat or that these folks have the ability to carry it out,’ said a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said the case was under investigation.

‘We’re absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado,’ Mr Eid said in a prepared statement.

Nobel literature laureate, Doris Lessing, had earlier predicted that “If Barack Obama becomes the next US president, he will surely be assassinated.

“Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him,” Lessing, 88, had told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Prize for Literature, said it might be better if Obama’s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

“The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama,” she had said.

Hillary Clinton, during the Democratic party primaries, while explaining why she was staying on the race for a long time even when it became obvious that she was losing, said: “my husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June.”

“We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June, in California,” she continued. “You know I just don’t understand it.” Many misunderstood this as death wish for Obama.

50 cent endorsed Hillary earlier for the fear that Obama will be assassinated if elected president and O'reily of FOX called him a pin-head.
Now, guess who is going to become a pin-head?
