When I wrote that Faruk Lasaki's "Changing Faces" Can Change The Nigerian Film Industry, most people were ignorant of the film, but since then "Changing Faces" has been going places and was in fact the only Nigerian film qualified for screeening at the last Cannes Film Festival in the Pavillon Les Cinémas du Sud.

Changing Faces is a melodramatic love story on the transference of spirits between the debonair sexy young reporter Lola and the prudish Architecture whiz kid Dale, who were symbolic of how opposites could get attracted to each other.

How did a married man who was a God fearing conservative workaholic end up in bed with an easy going and free spirited romantic woman?

They met at an architectural conference in a nice hill top hotel shot on location in Ibadan, Nigeria, where the bored Lola got excited at her first sight of the young and handsome Dale. She was a liberated black woman and he was a born again white Christian who was too busy to satisfy the erotic desire of his black wife and who was committed to matrimonial fidelity. She used her wits and sex appeal to seduce him and lure him into bed on the last night of the conference and suddenly there was a transference of their contrasting personalities. Lola was now transformed into a reserved and sensitive woman, whilst Dale was now transformed into a lively spirited man with high libido. His metamorphosis from a reserved gentleman into an erotic man on fire shocked his wife, but she never suspected anything had gone wrong until she caught him making love to their housemaid. She left him and he desperately went in search of Lola to seek deliverance from whatever demons have changed them, but ironically Lola even preferred her new personality of moral principles and scruples. Dale insisted on them going for spiritual deliverance to regain his sanity and sanctity and reconcile with his estranged wife.

CHANGING FACES has been chosen by the Special Screening Selection Committee of the Cairo International Film Fest ival for the Competition for Digital Feature Films.
The movie will also be shown at the forthcoming New York Film Festival and other major film festivals in the US and other parts of the world.
