18 interesting facts
about Mount
Rushmore
The Mount Rushmore
carvings were made
between October 4, 1927,
and October 31, 1941

There is a cave behind the
carving called the “Hall of
Records.”

Rushmore’s granite faces
tower over 5,500 feet
above sea level.

South Dakota historian
Doane Robinson is credited
with conceiving the idea of
carving the likenesses of
famous people into the
Black Hills region of South Dakota in order to
promote tourism in the
region.

Mount Rushmore has
become an iconic symbol of
presidential greatness and
has appeared in works of
fiction

The carvings are scaled to
men who would stand 465
feet tall.

The entire Mount Rushmore National
Memorial covers over 1,278 acres 90% of the heads were
carved with dynamite Over 800 million pounds of
stone was removed from
Mount Rushmore during
the construction.

Thomas Jefferson was
originally started on
George Washington’s right.
However, after 18 months
they realized that it was
not working. Jefferson’s face was dynamited off
and carved on the other
side.

Imagine climbing 506 steps
to reach the top of Mount
Rushmore-this was how
many steps the workers
had to climb each day!

The whole project cost US
$989,992.32.

The mountain itself was
originally named after
Charles E. Rushmore, New
York City attorney
investigating mining claims
in the Black Hills in 1885

The monument is 60 foot
(18 m) high. Each of the
President’s heads are the
height of a six-story
building, their eyes are 11
ft across, their noses are 20 ft long and their mouths 18
ft wide.

Definition: Rushmore is a
mountain in the Black Hills
of South Dakota.

The heads
of four US presidents
carved into it – President
George Washington, President Thomas
Jefferson, President
Abraham Lincoln and
President Theodore
Roosevelt.

The sculptures of the heads
of Washington, Jefferson,
Lincoln and Roosevelt
measure 60-foot (18 m).
Each President’s head is as
tall as a six-story building.

Initially, it was planned for
the figures to be carved
from head to waist, but a
shortage in funding didn’t
allow for this

. The heads of the Presidents
were sculpted by Gutzon
Borglum and later by his
son Lincoln Borglum
together withh 400
workers.

Here are some
funny,true,interesting fact
about girls

When a girl says she’s sad,
but she isn’t crying, it
means she’s crying in her
heart

. When she ignores you
after you’ve done
something wrong, it’s best
to give her some time to
cool down before touching
her heart with an apology.

A girl can’t find anything to
hate about the guy she
loves (which is why it is so
hard for her to ‘get over
him’ after the relationship’
s over.)

If a girl loves a guy, he will
always be on her mind
every minute of the day,
even though she flirts with
other guys.

When the guy she likes
smiles and stares deep into
her eyes, she will melt.

A girl likes to hear
compliments, but usually
not sure how to react to
them.

When a particular guy flirts
with a girl very often, a girl
would start thinking the
guy likes her. So if you
treat a girl just as a friend,
go easy on the smiles and stare ok?

If you don’t like a girl who
likes you, break it to her
gently.

If a girl starts avoiding you
after you reject her, leave
her alone for a while. If
you still treat her as a
friend, talk to her.

Girls enjoy talking about
what they feel. Music,
poetry, drawing sand
writing are ways of
expressing themselves
(which explains why most girls like writing journals).

Never tell a girl that she is
useless in anyway.

Being too serious can turn
a girl off.

When the guy she likes
calls her for the first time,
the girl may act look
uninterested during the
call. But as soon as the
phone is back on the hook, she will whoop with joy
and immediately start
telephoning her friends to
spread the news.

A smile means a lot to a girl.

If you like a girl, try
making friends with her
first. Let her get to know
you.

If a girl says she can’t go
out with you because she
has to study, leave. But if she still calls you or
expect a call from you,
stay.

Don’t try to guess a girl’s
feelings. Ask her.

Hearing the words “I love
you” is a great reassurance
to a girl that she is
beautiful.

After a girl falls in love with
a guy, she’ll wonder why
she never noticed him
before.

If you need tips on how to
flirt with a girl, read
romance stories.

When class pictures come
out, a girl would first check
who is standing next to
her crush before actually
looking at herself.

A girl’s ex-crush will
always be in her memory,
but the guy she loves now
stays in her heart.

Girls love having fun! A simple ‘Hi’ can brighten a
girl’s day.

A girl’s best friends usually
know best what she is
feeling and going through.

Girls hate it when a guy
pays attention to them just
to get close to their
‘prettier’ friend.

Love means devotion,
caring and happiness to a
girl, in that order.

Some girls care about
looks, some care about
brains, but ALL girls want a
guy who will love and care
for them.

Girls want nothing more
than to feel loved.

shakesphere’s
biography and life

held a lot of different jobs,
and at one point got paid
to drink beer.

2. Shakespeare married an
older woman who was
three months pregnant at
the time.

3. Shakespeare’s parents
were probably illiterate,
and his children almost
certainly were.

4. Nobody knows what
Shakespeare did between
1585 and 1592.

5. Shakespeare’s plays
feature the first written
instances of hundreds of
familiar terms.

6. We probably don’t spell

home in Stratford-upon-
Avon.

12. According to reports,
Shakespeare wrote quickly
and with ease; Fellow
playwright Ben Jonson said “Whatsoever he penned,
he never blotted out a
line.”

13. Women were not
allowed to act in plays
during Shakespeare’s time,
so in all of his plays,
women’s roles were
performed by boys/young men. (This meant that in As
You Like It, the boy player
had to play Rosalind, a
woman who pretends to
be a man pretending to
be…a woman!

14. Though the printing
press existed and books
were being mass-produced
all over Europe,
Shakespeare had little
interest in seeing his plays in print. He’d written them
not to be read, but to be
performed on stage.

15. Because they were
often hastily written for
performance on stage,
none of Shakespeare’s
original manuscripts exist.

16. Shakespeare returned
to Stratford after he
finished work on The
Tempest, in 1611.

17. He died in 1616. The
words “Curst be he that
moves my bones” were
inscribed on his grave.

18. Seven years after his
death, some of
Shakespeare’s fellow
players published
Shakespeare’s plays in a
single volume, called First Folio. They wrote that their
intention was “only to
keep the memory of so
worthy a friend, and fellow
alive, as was our
Shakespeare.”

19. Shakespeare’s was said
to have an extensive
vocabular; his works
contained more than
30,000 different words.

20. Almost four hundred
years after Shakespeare’s
death there are 157 million
pages referring to him on
Google. There are 132
million for God, 2.7 million for Elvis Presley, and coming up on
Shakespeare’s heels, George W Bush with 14.7 million.

21. Suicide occurs an
unlucky thirteen times in
Shakespeare’s plays. It
occurs in Romeo and Juliet
where both Romeo and
Juliet commit suicide, in Julius Caesar where both
Cassius and Brutus die by
consensual stabbing, as
well as Brutus’ wife Portia.

22. Some of Shakespeare’s
signatures have survived
on original documents. In
none of them does he spell
his name in what has
become the standard way. He spells it Shakespe;
Shakspe; Shakspere and
Shakespear.

23. Shakespeare lived a
double life. By the
seventeenth century he
had become a famous
playwright in London but
in his hometown of Stratford, where his wife
and children were, and
which he visited
frequently, he was a well
known and highly
respected businessman and property owner.

24. The American President
Abraham Lincoln was a
great lover of
Shakespeare’s plays and
frequently recited from
them to his friends. His assassin, John Wilkes Booth
was a famous
Shakespearean actor.

25. Although it was illegal
to be a Catholic in
Shakespeare’s lifetime, the
Anglican Archdeacon, Richard Davies of Lichfield, who had known him
wrote some time after
Shakespeare’s death that
he had been a Catholic.
