If everything goes as planned, it should be January but with the election and OAU's unfortunate appetite for meaningless strikes.......need I say more? Just pray, we ASGs started our own since.

Also, is it true that students studying Medicine & Surgery don't go on strike?

I remember before we wrote post-UTME, I had imagined that if all things went normal, we'd resume by March latest. That's how I woke up one morning to see our dear Ibikunle clamouring on Channels TV. Next thing, they closed school for two months.

Funny part? It happened like a joke. embarassed

They use an academic calendar quite different from ours and they cannot go on strike till they receive instructions from the Person in charge of the College of Medicine but that doesn't mean that they do not go on strike. They go on strike but it depends on the gravity of the cause of the strike. At least last time OAU was on strike because of the issue of fees, they were also told to go home.

By this time next 2 weeks, most of you- if not all- would have received your first P.D lecture.
Firstly, congrats to you on your admission. I believe my fellow expredites have flooded, and will flood this thread with pieces of advice and necessary bits of information to get you going.
People will tell you to be calm, that all will be well in Moro if you do your best..That's partly true,..
Predegree is basically a refresher of what you've been taught in your secondary schools (at least for first contact)... but ironically,I think this fact is the reason why some people don't perform up to their expectations. One thing you should know now is- P.D takes students from different academic "levels", and brings them all to level zero. If you were the best or the least student in your school in terms of grade, that doesn't count in Moro.
Drop your entrance exam score, drop your SSCE results, and come to Moro like you know nothing.. Everyone is given a fresh start.. it's up to you..
You must be willing to learn.LEARN, LEARN, LEARN...
Moro is not for those that know it very well, but for those that want to know it very well.
As most of you know already, you have 2 tests and 2 exams, but I think most people regard the word "test" as less intense than "exam". Very wrong. Like someone once told me, don't see it as tests and exams. See it as 4 exams in P.D. Every exam matters.. let me explain that last line.. I was a BCP student so I'll speak from that angle..
After the first test, 60% of those who are going medicine would've already taken their positions. After First exam, it rises to 90%.. the best time to run is first contact.
I'm not saying that those who don't perform too well can't get back into the race, they can.. but it's very very rare. It's easier for someone who performed well in first contact to perform badly in the end than for someone who performed not too well in first contact to eventually get up there..
I'll especially urge those Med. aspirants who're fresh secondary school graduates to put in extra effort.. you'll meet people who've stayed home for over 3 years, you might even meet some who have university experience already.. those people will not sit down and watch you displace them from the chosen 15-20 students taken for medicine.. During my set, I heard there were over 1k BCP students... let's assume 800 are going for medicine...that's roughly 2.5% of the Medicine aspirants getting in through P.D...
so if you want to spend your time "enjoying life" , just know that somewhere else in Moro, someone is reading a particular page in his/her biology note that could earn her an extra 1 mark (and trust me, 1 mark is way too much in PD.).

I cannot over emphasize the place of good friends during your stay there... the kind of friends you keep contributes hugely to you success there.

Also, ensure to attend a good fellowship while in school. Have it at the back of your mind that you came to Moro to get your desired place in OAU... but also remember there's a much more desired place after life..

It's only human to be a bit scared after reading this.. but let that fear propel you into action..
Better to be a bit shaky now and get your course of choice in the end... than to be calm now, and shaky at the end of P.D.

On a personal note : ensure to help others out with stuff (like studies) if they need help.. it takes away NOTHING from you..
Goodluck.
