Sijioke: 8| Albert Einstein: if asked to name a genius, most people would come up with the name Albert Einstein. Yet even for Einstein genius did not come easy. He had Speech difficulties as a child and was once even thought to be Mentally handicapped.
As a teen he rebelled against his schools reliance on rote learning and failed. He tried to test into Zurich polytechnic, but failed again ( although he did very well in the math and physics section.....as you might expect)
Einstein buckled down, received the requisite training and applied to zurich polythechnic again, and of course was accepted.
A few years later he had a PHD and was recognized as a leading theorist. A few years after that he had a Nobel prize for physics and began to be recognized as the genius of our era.

This is a good reminder to me...to keep going in spite of the obstacles of life.

It is also another reassuring reminder that if you don't keep trying...against all odds, you will have nothing to win at the end of the day.

Tanx for the effort man.

but why is it hard/impossible to talk about success without mentioning America
90% of the people mentioned here are Americans, does it mean that other countries
don't have people that failed and later succeeded? or that they they don't record it

Could it b that Africans dont really keep/have records?

Actually, he did not.

According to LD lore Einstein failed to talk until the age of four, the result of a language disability. It is also claimed that Einstein could not read until the age of nine. To strengthen their case LD proponents point to such facts that Einstein failed his first attempt at entrance into college and lost three teaching positions in two years.

While this makes a nice story, this widely believed notion is false, according to Ronald W. Clark's comprehensive biography of Einstein, and according to Subtle is the Lord: The Science and Life of Albert Einstein, a biography by Abraham Pais (Oxford University Press, 1982).

Pais states that although his family had initial apprehensions that he might be backward because of the unusually long time before he began to talk, Einstein was speaking in whole sentences by some point between age two and three years. According to Clark, a far more plausible reason for his relatively late speech development is "the simpler situation suggested by Einstein's son Hans Albert, who says that his father was withdrawn from the world even as a boy." Whether one accepts this interpretation, other information helps us to judge Einstein's language abilities after he began to speak.

Einstein entered school at the age of six, and against popular belief did very well. When he was seven his mother wrote, "Yesterday Albert received his grades, he was again number one, his report card was brilliant." At the age of twelve Einstein was reading physics books. At thirteen, after reading the Critique of Pure Reason and the work of other philosophers, Einstein adopted Kant as his favorite author. About this time he also read Darwin. Pais states, "the widespread belief that he was a poor student is unfounded."

Sijioke: 11| Steve Jobs: Steve Jobs was a college drop out, a fired tech executive and an unsuccessful businessman.
At 30-years-old he was left devastated after being unceremoniously removed from the company he founded.
In a 2005 Commencement speech and Stanford University, Jobs explained, I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successfull was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life".
After his return to Apple, Jobs created several iconic products, including the iPod , iPhone and iPad which have changed the face of consumer technology forever.
And Jobs became one of the richest in the world.

Ma role model and mentor.

Three gbosas for you, op!

As physics and math is peculiar to albert einstein,i quess he might be weak in some subject probabily biology that contain the anatomy, physiology of the body..or is he also gud in dat...

@op, your list is not completed without Sly popularly known as Rocky by American kids, and Rambo by Nigerian pikins.
The hugely famous actor,
producer, director Sylvester
Stallone had a rough start. His
life began with pregnancy
complications that changed his
fate forever.
Stallone’s biography at Wikipedia
contains the amazing story :
Complications his mother
suffered during labor forced
her obstetricians to use two
pairs of forceps during his
birth; misuse of these
accidentally severed a nerve
and caused paralysis in
parts of Stallone’s face. As a
result, the lower left side of
his face is paralyzed –
including parts of his lip,
tongue, and chin – an
accident which has given
Stallone his snarling look
and slightly slurred speech.
That’s not all. Wikipedia also
explains:
He spent his first five years
in Hell’s Kitchen, bouncing
between foster homes
while his parents endured a
troubled marriage.
Photo © Flickr User Gage
Skidmore
So did Sly go from there to
instant success? Nope. In fact, he
sunk pretty low and nearly went
broke!
Stallone had his first
starring role in the soft
core pornography feature
film The Party at Kitty and
Stud’s (1970). He was paid
US $200 for two days’ work.
Stallone later explained that
he had done the film out of
desperation after being
evicted from his apartment
and finding himself
homeless for several days.
He has also said that he
slept three weeks in the
New York City Port
Authority bus station prior
to seeing a casting notice
for the film. In the actor’s
words, “it was either do
that movie or rob someone,
because I was at the end –
the very end – of my
rope.”
Failure is the secret to success .
Stallone endured hardship after
hardship before finally finding his
path. In fact, the story of Rocky is
well-known. The actor wrote the
screenplay himself in twenty
hours straight, and then kept
refusing bigger and bigger offers
until someone finally allowed him
to play the title role. That kind of
denial would usually be thought of
as foolish. But for this Hollywood
legend, it was the secret to his
career.

12. SAMUEL ZION;
Beginning from a very humble beginning, he was called a dull boy in junior high school. He once came 51 out of 60. He was known for being restless and playful as a teenager and may not amount to anything in life.
But he didn't let this stop him.
When he was 16, he wrote his first book, REALIZATION OF SUCCESS, but had no recognition.

In Sept 2010, as an undergraduate student of Uniport, he organized a program titled CHANGING NIGERIA, IS IT NECESSARY? he only had 13 People in attendance.

But this didn't stop him. Graduating at 21 years old with a second class upper, he determined to make a difference.

Then in February 2014, at just 25 years old, he organized the largest (and probably the first) online valentine's day program that had 1.5 million people connect from around the world.
On May 27th 2014, he once again organized another online program titled YOUTH CONNECT 2014, and had 2.5 million hits as these events where hosted on all major social networks (facebook, linkedin, yookos etc).
(youthconect2014..com)
He is currently the CEO is Stars Concepts (starsconcepts.) (a social media advertising firm) and Stars Agros International (an agro company)

He didn't allow his challenges stop him from being successful and he still got so much ahead of him.

Choose to make a mark in the sands of time!

Sijioke: Failure
That is a word that most people dread.

Everyone wants to be a success. We want to be liked and admired.

But that dreaded "F" word always pops up. Failure.

This experience is strong enough to make you want to quit and start a new life.

Success takes time and effort. Yes,many times you will fail before you are succesful.

Ask just about anybody who has become succesful if they have ever failed at any aspect of their journey.Chances are you will get quite a few stories of missteps and blunders.

The difference between long-term success and failure is the reaction to it.

People who,as charlie sheen says are "Winners overcome the obstacles".

Yes,failure happens, live with it, learn from it.

There is a need to change the view on failure it is not something that needs to be avoided. It is a chance to learn something that does not work!
It is not always reaching the destination that defines the man(or woman),but the journey that is taken to get there. The biggest successes have gone through the biggest failures.

If you are struggling in your business or even if you're looking for small business opportunities do not be afraid to try things that are "new" "different" and perhaps even fly in the face of conventional wisdom. The worst thing that can happen is failure which is just a chance to learn and grow.

To illustrate the point, here is a list of 11 people who were all hugely succesfull in their fields. All of them failed. Not only did these people fail, but they failed on a massive scale. Yet history still views these successful people who failed as great success stories because they bounced back and succeded in the end.

Cool. I particularly like the Stephen King one. The wife rescued his scripts from the 'round file' - the garbage can I suppose and tried one more time. I guess a couple of threads that run through them all is persistence and a will to do it differently once again.
Re: Successful People Who Failed At First by Reference(m): 6:57pm On Jul 11, 2014
jahbiz: Great!!! But where are African names especially Nigerians. Don't we have one?

We do. They are just not global icons. And that's an important point. You donot have to be massive to be successful. Success is not measured in size or popularity but in the distance between where you started and where you end and for some that journey begins even after their demise and continues for generations without end. So never underestimate the smallest, irrelevant seed of a story you see today around you. Life has a way of surprises. Just never give up. Always strive for excellence and fight till your last days on earth.
