55 people consisting of 50 married men and five women have been sentenced to 4 months imprisonment each in Kano State for taking alcohol during the on-going Ramadan fasting which is considered a crime. The board’s Director-General, Alhaji Abba Sufi, told NAN that the convicts were arrested last week following raids of hideouts in the state. He revealed that all the 55 persons have been sentenced to four months imprisonment without an option of fine in order to serve as a lesson to others who might think of carrying out such an act . He later added “Even if we are not in the month of Ramadan, nobody should take alcohol because the state is implementing Sharia law,” he said.
According to him another 27 have been arrested and will soon be sentenced.
Wow they're are just sentencing people like they're sending them on an excursion or something like that.

Hypocricy in action. The people use their washing kettle to store beer and ogogoro. I dont drink or support drinking alcohol. But this seems an action against some tribes.

If they check very well they will catch more of them. Back then at the university, a friend used to empty some green bottles into the buda (the kettle used for ablution). That kettle only goes to his mouth while he uses another to wash his hands and legs. They should check the buda properly. Lol

That is good it will reduce the population of drunkers and rate crime and encourage good behavior
