FRC Indicts NAFDAC For Unremitted N1.439 Billion Operational Surplus. by adeoladrg(m): 7:38pm On Jul 17, 2014 |
THE National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has fallen foul of Section 2 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007 by not remitting to the federation account an operational surplus amounting to N1.439 billion as demanded by Law, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has said. FRC noted that the Act made it mandatory for government agencies such as NAFDAC to remit certain percentage of their operational surplus to the Federation Account. “Notwithstanding the provisions of any written law governing the corporation, each corporation shall establish a general reserve fund and shall allocate thereto at the end of each financial year one-fifth of its operating surplus for the year,” the section provided. “The balance of the operating surplus shall be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federal Government not later than one month following the statutory deadline for publishing each corporation’s accounts.” Speaking in Abuja yesterday on issues relating to NAFDAC’s Audited Financial Statements of 2007 to 2009, the FRC Head of Policy and Standard, Mohammed Ola Tijani, said: “We have reviewed your accounts from 2007 to 2009 and discovered that you have to pay N1.439 billion to the federation account as demanded by law.” According to Tijani, “a close look at NAFDAC’s account shows that it generated N491, 252 million surplus in 2007, N857, 132 million in 2008 and N607, 680 million in 2009 but paid N64, 048 million to the federation account in 2007, N93 million in 2008 and N105, 000 million respectively. “The account books also indicate that NAFDAC’s 2007 outstanding stood at N427, 204 million, N763, 565 million in 2008 and N502, 680 million in 2009. Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of FRC, Victor Chinemeren Muruako, has warned that NAFDAC would be sanctioned if it delays the payments. He said: “I would have appreciated if the DG of NAFDAC was here. “I will only appeal to your management to hurriedly pay this money to government’s purse, failure of which will make us to write damaging reports on your agency.” However, he asked NAFDAC representatives to consult with their Director-General on the date for payment. Responding, the Director of Finance and Accounts and representative of NAFDAC, Mr. Ademola Mogbojumi, said the team would relay the message his boss, Dr. Paul Ohi, for prompt action. Is it any surprise 'doctors' would kill themselves just to head those ministries? And even create more ministries? And prevent othe health professionals from attaining the peak of their careers? What is the business of a Medical Doctor as the DG of NAFDAC when the law clearly states that only Pharmacists are meant to head? A Food Scientist or Technologist would still be prefarable to those thieving 'doctors'. Just hearing about how OAUTHC was mismanaged by the COMMAND. Seems EFCC is on the case. |

Pharmacists didn't go on strike when politics came into play and Dr paul orhii was appointed as DG of NAFDAC. Doctors didn't say nothing about the anomaly either. Now pharmacists, nurses, lab scientists are saying they also want an opportunity to be able to make an impact, reach the peak of their career and also get a shot at the headship of hospitals and doctors have thrown all the caution to the wind and allowed people die over silly reasons... When Dora Akunyili of blessed memory was the DG of NAFDAC this never came up, we measured a large amount of progress but now? I'll let you fill in the dots.. |
