Chuukwudi: God is great! Botanists, How did the water enter inside that hard shelled cover in the first place lomaxx: I spend more time wondering how the water got in there in the first instance.Photosynthesis. The young coconut has a green skin which helps in photosynthesis. Water is a byproduct of that process. I guess the water produced passes through the shell(which is very soft at that time) and settles inside the coconut. #MyThoughts 1 Like |

The misconception about coconut water making u a dulllard is totally false. What I believe is that those adults, knowing that coconut water is very sweet, would want to enjoy it alone. And considering the fact that the water in the coconut is quite small, they just lie to children that drinking it wud make them dullards. Then the adults get to drink it alone. Same logic applies to when an adult tells u that eating the eyes of fish or the head also make one a complete dullard. Tricky, aren't they? : 4 Likes |

You people should stop making unnecessary noise. What is not good is not good, drinking coconut water is like washing ones brain, believe it or not, it is absolutely true, my grand mother even said drinking it will make you almost forget your parent's name. If you have been drinking it, be warned!!! |

Thought it was just a substitute for water. Later learned it helps the body in many ways. Gatorade etc are all chemical imitations of coconut water but all have long term side effects and are not as effective. More people are turning to the natural coconut water and presently the worldwide demand has already outstripped the supply.Scouts are on an international hunt for supply. 1 Like |

Its just a tale told by adults to discourage children from plucking unmatured coconot. An unmatured coconot fruit contains lots of coconot water about 2-3 times that of matured ones. Because of the water, children may go and pluck them just to drink the water. To save the coconut, children are told all maner of lies. Was told this during my field practical training in NIFOR |

lomaxx: I spend more time wondering how the water got in there in the first instance. The coconut, is actually "a hard covered fruit." Inside this fruit you find the copra, which is the hard white material that is dried for shredded coconut. When a coconut is allowed to grow into a tree, it is the copra that is the source of nutrients that feeds the sapling for the first seven or eight months of its growth cycle. By that time the sap or liquid, which we call coconut milk, has disappeared because it has fed the plant. There would be no coconut milk in a fruit that has started to germinate. In other words, it is a fruit like any other fruit that gives life to a new plant. The tree produces the fruit (coconut) which has liquid (coconut milk) that helps to feed a new plant 1 Like |
