in recruiting all these 'Americans' to compete for Nigeria.

They have had no overwhelming impact on our athletics at all. Infact,
they are performing at the standard that the old set of home-based
athletes were.

Blessing who is our biggest star today was not recruited. Her talent was
discovered here and refined in the USA... I strongly believe that if we
need someone or some people to join her standards, we will need to also
sponsor some young Nigerian talents to do better for the future...

I don't know if anyone else shares my 'sentiments'...[/quote]seconded the americans are not good enough

I just saw the startlist for blessing okagbare in heat 1 of the 200m... that startlist is so laughable.

She will jog from start to finish smiley

Infact. She will also jog in the finals. No athlete has a PB even close to her season's best! I can't wait for the finals... she ll dwarf the field.

I wish we still had Uchenna Emedolu and Olusoji Fasugba because i'm positive that they would have posed some challenge. The men we have now are falling hand seriously.

lmao, african usain bolt!! I know she can jog,but let her take advantage of it once its the semifinals to start record-breaking.thats what matters now.she should target a sub-20secs. Or sub 21sec! Ride on Bless!

Ahhh Fasuba was very good. I think he once posted 9.86s! If we are to get to that level... we need serious investments!

Grassroots athletics needs to be developed and there should be a programme. I was watching world junior champs in usa... and I saw some kids that participated in the world youth champs last year... dts continuity.

I hope Nigeria is thinking in that direction.

Lol sub 20 or 21 ke? Cool down bro.

The only active ladies that have sub 22 are Felix and Campbell-brown! But I hope Okagbare can break the African record of 22.07s set by Mary Onyali.

I watched the Women's 4x100 IAAF Relay Championship, and the Jamaicans had some problems handing over their batons smoothly.
Nigeria could just nick a gold in the event

I am hoping for a baton error from them. they certainly have a better team; VCB, SAFP, Kerron Stewart and 'Anybody' .. Thats a world class team anywhere in any field in any championship. sad smiley

But i am #TeamNigeria all the way.

P.S: I hope Maurice Greene doesnt allow blessing run the second leg like the world relays ... i think duncan will do okay there!

True.. I also think the Jamaican coaches would field VCB, SAFP and Kerron Stewart as the first 3 runners, in order to neutralize any potential barnstorming run by Okagbare on the final leg. By the time, the baton gets to Blessing in the last leg, the Jamaicans would hope that the gap would be too much for her to make up.

Anyway, I'd prefer Gloria Asumnu to be the lead-off, Duncan and Christy Udoh as the 2nd and 3rd legs.

It's not advisable to break a record in the Heats; but as that race is the only one she would partake in tonight, she may decide to serve a warning to the Jamaicans grin grin
