Bishop David Oyedepo is a man of
influence and affluence among his
congregation as the amiable clergy
requested for a gift of 200 Prado
jeeps from his numerous worshipers
in January 2014 and 200 donors
gladly fulfilled their pledges few days
back.
The 59 year old clergy, who will turn
60 on September 27, 2014, told his
ardent followers that he needed 200
new Prado jeeps for ministerial
purpose. We gathered that the exact
reasons were undisclosed but we
reliably gathered it might not be
unconnected to the fact that it’s for
use in some of their branches
manned by his ordained pastors
scattered across the country.
It was revealed that a brand new
Prado jeep goes for about N10.6
million. Thus, the estimated cost of
200 Prado jeeps comes to N2.1
billion. Our source revealed to us that
it was an individual thing among the
wealthy members, who voluntarily
donated the jeeps. Therefore, the
place of purchase cannot be easily
determined nor the identity of the
donors revealed. But we gathered the
jeeps are tucked away inside the
Cannanland at Ota, Ogun State.
It would be recalled that in January
2013, during Winners Chapel cross
over service on Tuesday January 1,
2013, in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun
state, worshipers made donations of
over 700 exotic cars to the church.
People who felt they had been richly
blessed in 2012 came to the cross
over service with different donations.
Most significant was the number of
exotic brand new cars and SUVs that
flooded Canaanland. The people who
donated them dropped the keys and
documents of the cars during
offering. The church auctioned the
cars at very cheap prizes to its
members. Some cars were sold for as
low as N300,000.
Bishop David Oyedepo was born in
September 27, 1954. Although he
hails from Omu Aran in Kwara State,
he was born in Osogbo, Osun State.
He is from a religiously mixed family.
Bishop Oyedepo’s father name is
Ibrahim, he was a Muslim healer and
his mother, Dorcas was a member of
the Eternal Order of the Cherubim
and Seraphim Movement, a branch of
the Aladura church.
He was brought up by his
grandmother in Osogbo community,
who nurtured and taught him
Christian ethics with the early
morning prayers which she attended
with him every day. She also taught
him how to believe in his destiny.
Bishop gave his life to Christ in late
1969 through the help of his teacher
who took special interest in him
during his high school years. He
studied Architecture at Kwara State
Polytechnic and worked briefly with
the Federal Ministry of Housing in
Ilorin before resigning to go fully into
the ministry/ missionary work.
Oyedepo also got his Ph.D in Human
Development from Honolulu
University, Hawaii, United States of
America.
Bishop Oyedepo got a full call from
God with the aid of an 18 hour long
vision in May 1981 to save the world
from all forms of oppression of the
devil by preaching the word of the
Lord . This is the clear vision that led
to the founding of the Living Faith
Church Worldwide first called
Liberation Faith Hour Ministries in
1981, before it was changed.
Two years after, on September 17,
1983, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General
Overseer of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God, ordained him and his
wife, Florence Abiola Akano (now
Faith Abiola Oyedepo) as pastors and
also officially commissioned the
newly started church of Oyedepo.
Five years after, David Oyedepo was
ordained a bishop.
Living Faith Church well known as
Winners Chapel took-off in Kaduna,
but moved to Lagos in September
1989, to set up a new branch, after
receiving revelation from God to
reach out and connect to the
population in Lagos and the world as
well.
This church in Lagos expanded to
earn the International headquarters
of Living Faith Church in Nigeria, with
a constantly increasing flow of
crowds flooding over to adjacent
roads, and on decks of uncompleted
structures nearby, making people to
stand for hours to listen to his
wonderful teachings. This led to the
building of the renowned Faith
Tabernacle, as directed by God.
The non -stop construction of Faith
Tabernacle was breath-taking, on
account of the size of the building.
Construction of this multi-billion
naira project was completed within
12 months which experts claimed
could only have been a miracle,
because such a project should
normally take a minimum of three
years to achieve. Reports also
claimed that the building was built
debt free. This 50,000-seat edifice
was dedicated on September 18,
1999, under the administration of
former President Olusegun Obasanjo
