Of course their is another way but still wount meet up your initial investment.... Let me explain more better sir....Plantain farm is just like you build a house and install tenants.... Tenants can pay you the gross total you use in building the house but what they do is annual payment , so is the same thing to plantain farm...once you plant its continue annual income for you....the max income for one acre with spacing 2x2 is 595,000.00 naira .....and it increasing annually... So its worth investment.... Contacting us for more details on phone will be best option now sir for more explains. Thanks |

Plantains, like other bananas. require a hot and humid environment. Ideally, the average air temperature should be about 30°C and rainfall at least 100 mm per month. Rainfall should be well distributed throughout the year and dry seasons should be as short as possible. Irrigation is not suitable nor economically worthwhile for plantains grown by the family farmer. but may become necessary when larger fields are cultivated in areas with a long dry season. |

Lime is a common soil amendment or conditioner; it is not a plant fertilizer. The primary purpose of lime is to stabilize soil acidity. However, it also regulates the level of magnesium, calcium, copper, zinc, phosphorus and bacteria found in soil. |

Many people today are still wallowing in abject poverty notwithstanding that they can still conveniently do some things about the sad situation and rescue themselves from poverty, take care of the situation by embarking on personal business or the other instead of waiting endlessly for a white collar job that may be here today and gone tomorrow. Do you know that plantain and banana mean much more than being carried with tray-pan and running after vehicles on the go-slow as so many are seen doing in many parts of Nigeria? If we realize that the demands of these fruits that has become staple food in Nigeria and other parts of the world is increasing by the day, we would then know that thinking towards that area would make some serious business senses. |

sedulus: I have decided to take the plunge into plantain (See this thread for more details/background https://www.nairaland.com/3475013/request-top-3-items-cultivate ). However, I have seen some recommendations that suggest to start out small , then expand. I like this idea. So, the way I am planning to start small is by having a 3m X 3m spacing , and then, either the second or third season, increase the density on the same area by reducing the spacing to 1.5m X 1.5m. My question here is , are there any drawbacks (or maybe additional advantages ) to doing this ? The primary drawback that comes to mind it that the end fruit might be smaller once the density is increased. (However , I plan to mitigate that risk by fertilization and irrigation both before and after the increase in density) The primary advantage I see is the start small , learn and use the knowledge to expand. |

The pruning’s are spread over the soil. Flemingia is not fertilized as it benefits from fixed nitrogen and leached fertilizers applied to the plantains. Grass growing between the plantains is not suitable as a mulch source because it competes with the plantains. Visit :www.sedulusplantainsucker.com.ng

Plantain is quite different from dessert banana, being taller and larger and more drought tolerant. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that develops from the underground rhizome. Like bananas, it too flourishes well under tropical moisture-rich, humid low-lying farmlands. |

Black sigatoka is a leaf spot disease caused by the fungus Mycosphaerel/a fijiensis. All known plantain cultivars are susceptible to this wind-borne fungus. Leaves first show yellow spots which later turn brown and black. Ultimately the leaf tissue becomes necrotic and dies. In this way entire leaves become nonfunctional and in many cases, bearing plants are left with hardly any green leaves at maturity. Photosynthesis is reduced and small bunches (sometimes with undeveloped fingers) are produced. Yield losses are estimated at between 30 and 50 percent.

The bulk of the banana, cooking banana and plantain are eaten either as raw, in the ripe state, or as a cooked vegetable, and only a very small proportion are processed in order to obtain a storable product. Generally, preserved products do not contribute significantly to the diet of the millions of people who eat banana, cooking banana and plantain, however in some countries or areas, the processed or preserved products are important in periods when food is scarce. Processing is recognized as a way of preserving the fruit. Yet the proportion of fruits processed and the suitability of the various Musa groups to processing is relatively unknown. |

The compensation point of each species at an average temperature of 79°F. was determined at the point where the regression line of CO2 absorption on light intensity crossed the abscissa-the light intensity at which CO2 uptake equals CO2 evolution. Seedling pretreatment, photosynthesis determinations, and leaf area and weight measurements were obtained as described for the first study.

Plantains can be planted throughout the rainy season. How- ever, they should grow vigorously and without stress during the first 3 to 4 months after planting, and therefore they should not be planted during the last months of the rainy season.

Sedulus Plantain Farm is producer of plantain sucker that always benefits from the use of fertilizer (table 1). The yield from fertilized plants can be up to 10 times higher than that from unfertilized plants. The amount of fertilizer needed depends on soil fertility and soil type. General recommendations cannot be made as these should be based on soil or leaf analysis and the results of fertilizer experiments. Since potassium and nitrogen are easily leached, they should always be applied at regular intervals (split applications) during the growing (rainy) season. Other important nutrients are phosphate, calcium and magnesium which are provided in one application.
