http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2716428/World-Bank-pledges-200-million-contain-Ebola-miracle-serum-raises-hopes-disease-treated.html Saudi Arabian health officials are testing a patient suspected of contracting the deadly Ebola virus as fears grow the disease is starting to spread beyond west Africa. The Ebola epidemic has so far been contained to west African nations, where almost 900 people have died from more than 1600 confirmed cases. But Saudi Arabia is now testing samples from a man who recently returned from a business trip to Sierra Leone for suspected Ebola infection, the Health Ministry said. It said the man, a Saudi in his 40s, was at a hospital in the Red Sea city of Jeddah. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2716777/Has-Ebola-reached-UK-Welsh-national-returned-West-Africa-week-ago-quarantine-home-fears-exposed-deadly-disease.html A Briton who fears they may have contracted the deadly Ebola virus while abroad has returned home and placed themselves in voluntary quarantine, it has emerged. The potential victim, a Welsh national understood to be living in Cardiff, is being 'closely monitored,' health officials said today. Doctors from Public Health Wales said the individual had been 'voluntarily' confined at home for the past week after returning from an infected country in West Africa. |

Panic appears to be growing among the Nigerian populace owning to the delay in the release of the results of nearly ten persons under severe surveillance. Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu had told journalists Monday that "the results of 2 persons were being awaited." The combination of the two and eight other persons who had contact with the Liberian - American, Mr Patrick Sawyer brings the number to about ten, aside from 70 persons who are also under watch. The delay in the release of the results has heightened fears among citizens that the number of Nigerians who have contracted the Ebola virus may be on the increase. Also, the result in Anambra and Akwa Ibom States is being awaited. This is coming on the heels of panic in Ogun State where persons with contact with late Mr Sawyer are believed to be staying. |

LAGOS—THERE were fears, yesterday, that six of the eight primary contacts of the late Patrick Sawyer, may have tested positive to the Ebola virus, but are yet to show signs of the disease. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said that the seven remaining primary contacts currently in quarantine are showing no signs of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD. A source, who confirmed this to Vanguard, said the six feared to have tested positive are among those who had serious contact with the late Liberian Ebola victim. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/feared-infected-ebola-virus/#sthash.8YvfsEtl.dpuf |

http://www.punchng.com/news/sawyer-lagos-matron-shows-ebola-symptoms/ There was gloom at the secretariat of the Nigerian Medical Association,Lagos State chapter when the association’s Chairman, Dr. Tope Ojo, disclosed that the matron of the hospital where the Liberian-born American, Patrick Sawyer, was admitted for treatment was showing symptoms of Ebola virus. The matron is one of the health workers at the Obalende, Lagos hospital who attended to Sawyer before he died of the disease (Ebola) on July 25.. A female medical doctor, who also participated in managing the Liberian- American was confirmed on Monday by the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, to have contracted the deadly virus. Apart from the female medical doctor and the matron, six other people suspected to have been infected with the virus are being quarantined at the IDH, Yaba. |
